Peterbilt Offers Bendix® Wingman® ACB – Active Cruise with Braking
LOUISVILLE, Ky.--Today, Peterbilt Motors Company announced that it offers Bendix® Wingman® ACB – Active Cruise with Braking, a radar-based collision mitigation technology, on its Class 8 models at its press conference at the Mid-America Trucking Show.
“The Bendix Wingman ACB system is a revolutionary new feature that will push the limits of safety engineering for the industry.”
Peterbilt has partnered with Bendix to offer their Wingman ACB system on the Models 389, 388, 587, 386, 384, 382, 367 and 365 enabling truck operators to set and maintain a safe following distance. The safe distance is always maintained through audible and visual warnings and, when operating in cruise control, through active interventions including dethrottling, engaging the engine retarder and applying the brakes to maintain the selected following distance behind a forward vehicle.
“Vehicle safety is paramount at Peterbilt, continually adopting new cost-effective technologies that provide our customers an enhanced level of driving control goal is a priority,” said Landon Sproull, Peterbilt Chief Engineer. “The Bendix Wingman ACB system is a revolutionary new feature that will push the limits of safety engineering for the industry.”
The system also includes stationary object alerts, which help drivers with warnings for metallic objects, such as stalled cars, in their lane of travel – which can be especially helpful in low visibility conditions such as night, fog, heavy rain and snow. Additionally, information, warnings, and operation of the system are incorporated into the dash and allow drivers to activate the automatic interventions using the existing cruise control switches. Using a radar sensor mounted to the front of the vehicle – and building upon Bendix® ESP® full stability technology – the system delivers the most active safety technology available on trucks today.
“We are thrilled that Peterbilt is offering the Bendix ACB system on their highway vehicles,” said Fred Andersky, Director of Marketing – Controls, Bendix Commercial Vehicle Systems, LLC. “This continues the strong partnership that Peterbilt and Bendix have on commercial vehicle safety technologies, including Bendix ESP full stability technology and now with Bendix Wingman ACB collision mitigation technology.”
