Irwindale, March 23, 2010: “We came up with that slogan in 1998, almost a year before we opened,” said track VP/GM Bob De Fazio. “Of course we all had high hopes for the facility, and we all felt that we had a winner … that we were bringing something very special to the greater Los Angeles area. This place has really lived up to all of our expectations … it truly has become the southland’s half-mile superspeedway.”
This year’s weekly racing season at the now nationally-known banked half-mile oval named Toyota Speedway at Irwindale starts this Saturday, March 27th, exactly 12 years to the day of the first-ever race there in 1999. That evening will kick off another spectacular stockcar season that’s set to see more racing per mile than any season yet in the books.
Anchored by a full schedule of 30 NASCAR Home Track events running from March through October, Saturday nights at the Speedway are always a great reason for the whole family to visit to the nearby facility. The Speedway has become the place where unalloyed short track racing excitement explodes into action hundreds of times a year.
And this year’s opening night will offer a “more RACING for your money” menu that features six different types of racing machines, six hold-your-breath green flag starts, six edge-of-your-seat races, six one-lap-to-go white flags, and six heart-in-your-throat checkered flags. And, in between those fast-waving flags, all of the action-packed racing that short track/short duration races always provide.
Remember please, 25 laps at this place is only 12 and a half miles. Racing strategy is sweet and simple in short track: Stand on the gas … Hard! ... And watch for the white flag which means that you've either got one more lap to stay in the lead or one more lap to get into the lead, either way a wild finish is in the offing ... standing and cheering room only!
NASCAR stock cars range from the fastest in the country Super Late Models to the budget-friendly Justice Brothers Mini-Stocks with Auto Club Late Models, Vista Paints Super Stocks, and Classic Stocks. Add in the exciting new Langers Juice S2 Cars aimed at putting new drivers into serious stock cars at a sensible price; and you have live NASCAR competition happening right in LA’s backyard nearly every weekend that the Speedway is open!
And just for variety, go ahead and add in all the unique events like Demolition Derbies, Train Races, Figure-8 racing, Auto Soccer, Trailer Races, special nights for all kinds of attractions like Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, the Armed Forces, Firefighters, Labor Unions, Law Enforcement, Students & Teachers, Indian Guides, the best 4th of July Fireworks show in the county, and the classic 70th (yes Seventieth … since 1934) Thanksgiving Night Grand Prix … There’s always something special going on at nearby, amily-friendly Toyota Speedway.
The fact of the matter is, many “regulars” have such great times year after year at the Speedway that they simply head out to the track on Saturday night, without even checking that evening’s line-up. “They know they’re going to see a great show, every Saturday night - - any Saturday night that we’re racing.” De Fazio concluded.
ONE MORE THING: What other high-quality outdoor entertainment product has carried the same price for the past 12 years?
HERE’S ONE: Since opening night 1999 Toyota Speedway at Irwindale has had the same affordable regular adult admission price, only $15.00.
That's a full night of live NASCAR action for just $15.00!
Oh yeah, children (bring all the kids, because we love ‘em!) under 12 are always free, seniors pay only 12 bucks, and students under 18 are in for half price ($7.50).
Toyota Speedway is located on right on the 605 Freeway at the 210, just a few miles North of the 10, with acres of close-in parking, and 6,500 great seats, a super sound system, and a pre-race on-track autograph party every week, it’s a terrific way for racing fans to enjoy exciting NASCAR entertainment almost every Saturday night from late March through mid-October.
