National Toyota Litigation Symposium Scheduled on Eve of Judicial Hearing

SAN DIEGO--The national Toyota Litigation Symposium is being held March 24th at the Westin hotel in San Diego, CA. The event, which is being chaired by Attorneys Richard J. Arsenault and Jimmy Faircloth of Alexandria, LA and Elizabeth Cabraser of San Francisco, will draw attorneys from some of the earliest-filed cases regarding allegations of sudden acceleration defects in Toyota vehicles.

“MDLs, if properly managed, provide one option for processing our 21st century needs while still preserving fundamental principles of equity, justice and fairness”

The symposium is on the eve of the federal Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation’s hearing, which is also being held in San Diego. The panel will hear arguments on the establishment of a coordinated legal proceeding for all federal lawsuits arising from the Toyota recall.

On the 25th, the Judicial Panel will entertain motions regarding the Toyota litigation. Richard J. Arsenault, a veteran of class action and complex litigation, has filed several lawsuits in states across the country against Toyota including Louisiana, New York, California and Missouri. He will be presenting arguments before the panel.

“The Multidistrict Litigation (MDL) process has established itself as an important tool for addressing complex disputes. And, in becoming familiar with the MDL device, lawyers must adjust their philosophies and notions of how cases are litigated and how they get concluded. Of course, complex litigation always provides an opportunity for creative thinking and strategic coordination. The Toyota litigation will be no different,” said Arsenault.

“MDLs, if properly managed, provide one option for processing our 21st century needs while still preserving fundamental principles of equity, justice and fairness,” noted Faircloth, the former Executive Counsel to Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal. Faircloth will address the topic of corporate damage control at the seminar.

The Toyota Litigation Symposium will feature some of the nation’s most preeminent attorneys, many with decades of experience handling large, complex national cases. They will speak on a number of issues pertaining to the unique circumstances of the Toyota recall and resulting litigation.

The event, which is being held at the Westin hotel in San Diego, CA, has been profiled by the Associated Press, the Wall Street Journal, and other local and national media outlets.
