Weather conditions force postponement of Thunderhill Raceway Season Opener

KYLE, TX (March 20, 2010) – The stage was all set for tonight’s season opener at Thunderhill Raceway (THR), but Mother Nature had other plans for the 3/8-mile asphalt oval track.
The Open Test-n-Tune session went well last night, with drivers bringing in their cars from all over South Texas. The pit gate was scheduled to open again this morning, but heavy rain from an approaching cold front have made conditions at the track unfavorable for racing.
“We really tried to move forward with this event,” said Mary Ann Naumann, THR’s Owner and Promoter. “I know the drivers and fans were really ready for racing. We’ve had great weather all week, but unfortunately Mother Nature took control overnight and changed our plans. Even though the weather looks like it will clear up later today, there’s lots of standing water on the track and it’s in really bad shape.”
A decision has been made to postpone the season opener until next weekend – starting with another Open Test-n-Tune on Friday night (March 26). The full slate of races and activities will be moved to Saturday, March 27.
“We hope that a postponement is the best solution for everyone since the next race isn’t scheduled until April 24 – a long time from now,” added Naumann. “Hopefully the drivers and fans can adjust their schedules and join us next weekend.”
The full racing agenda for next Saturday night will include the fan-favorite TSRS (Texas Super Racing Series) Late Models, along with the TSRS Allison Legacys, Texas Pro Sedans, Dwarf Cars, SportMods, ASA A-Line Super Stocks, Thunder Stocks, Grand Stocks and Mini Stocks.
Kids’ bicycle races are on Saturday’s list of activities, and kiddie rides (in the race cars) will also be offered at the end of the night.
Grandstand gates will open on Saturday a little earlier than usual – at 4 p.m. Qualifying will start at 4:30 p.m., followed by a Driver Autograph Session at 5:15 p.m. The racing action will begin with heat races at 6 p.m. and opening ceremony and feature races immediately afterwards.
Admission for the grandstands is $12 for adults (including tax), with a $2 discount for seniors, military and police and EMS personnel (with ID). Children 12 and under are free.
