Jeg Coughlin Jr. earned the title of best Pro Stock driver of the "aughts"
after the easy-going Ohioan collected four world titles in the first
decade of the millennium.
It all started in Y2K when, in just his third year in the drag racing's
toughest category, Coughlin put up stats rarely seen in the sport -- 10
victories in 14 final-round appearances and four No. 1 qualifiers -- while
leading the championship points from wire-to-wire.
Wins came early in Pomona and Phoenix, throughout the spring in Vegas,
Houston, and Richmond, into the summer in Atlanta and Englishtown, and on to
the fall in Indianapolis, Topeka, and Memphis. Coughlin was simply
untouchable all year long and celebrated at the end of the year with his first
professional-level world title.
