DANNY ROWE TO KICK OFF 2010 IN GAINESVILLE; POSTS CAREER-BEST 5.81/251 IN PRE-RACE TESTING
(3-10-2010) LAGUNA HILLS, California – Only days away from what is likely to be one of the most significant events in the history of Pro Modified drag racing, Danny Rowe and the Sterling Bridge Pro Modified team are eager to get back to business on the quarter-mile amongst the best the sport has to offer at the Tire Kingdom NHRA Gatornationals at Gainesville Raceway in Florida. The annual Pro Mod season-opener has been the talk of the racing world for weeks as 28 of the world’s top teams are entered into the category’s first event as a professional NHRA eliminator.
“Of course, we are all very excited to get back on the racetrack,” says Rowe, who will continue to represent Sterling Bridge in 2010. “We’ve been testing heavily here the last few weeks and, as usual, Jimmy Rector [crew chief] has given me a bad ass hot rod going into this first race of the season in Gainesville.
“The Gatornationals always provide the perfect setting to kick off the season; the stands are packed and the conditions are favorable for big performances. Having spent the last few days testing in Valdosta, Georgia, we are well aware of what the competition is capable of and I’m of the opinion this is going to be our toughest season yet. That’s not to say that we’re not ready for them, though, because we know we can run the number – our 5.81 at 251mph yesterday is evidence of that.”
With testing out of the way and all the necessary preparation handled, the team’s focus has shifted to the race season and a run at the first-ever Get Screened America NHRA Pro Mod Drag Racing Series world championship. For Danny Rowe Racing, who has long since used consistency as their primary offense, the time-tested race day mantra – “One round at a time” – holds true from the very first call to the lanes.
“As has always been the case, we know that we need to consider only the task at hand,” says Rowe en route to Gainesville Raceway. “It’s easy to get ahead of yourself out here, it’s hard not to think about the possibilities; the bottom line, though, is that we want to qualify well and win every drag race we’re in. No, you can’t win them all, but that doesn’t mean we’re not going to try.”
Amongst the best of the best, Rowe and company will begin a 10-race quest this weekend in Florida towards a world title for Sterling Bridge, Impact Racing, Weld Racing, Hoosier Racing Tire, Red Line Oil, NGK Spark Plugs and Permatex. If Rowe’s past performance is any indication, it would be hard to deny that 2010 may well represent the season that he goes the distance and earns his first professional championship.
The Danny Rowe Racing Pro Modified team will get to work later this week, starting with the opening two rounds of qualifying for the Tire Kingdom NHRA Gatornationals at Gainesville Raceway in Florida on Friday, March 12th, with a final session slated for Saturday afternoon and Round 1 of eliminations that evening. Final eliminations will get underway on Sunday the 14th at 11:00 AM.
