BMW to launch new model by year-end

CHENNAI: German car maker BMW will start rolling out its third model - BMW X1 - from its Indian plant near here by the end of this year, a company official said Thursday.

"The proposed model is scheduled to be launched by the end of this year. The new model will join BMW 3 and BMW 5 series models rolled out from the Indian plant," BMW India President Peter Kronschnabl told reporters here.

Launching two new variants of its BMW 3 series - 320d corporate edition (diesel price Rs.2.3 million) and BMW 330i (petrol price Rs.3.3 million), BMW India will rapidly expand its Indian market investing in brand promotion and also getting into used car segment, he said.

He said the company will also expand its production capacity as well as its distribution network.
