CAMARILLO, Calif.--Transonic Combustion announced today that as a finalist in the U.S. Department of Energy's ARPA-E program, it has been invited to showcase its energy efficient automotive technology at the inaugural ARPA-E Energy Innovation Summit. At the Summit, the company will present its fuel injection technology for automakers for the first time in a government forum. The patented technology for standard passenger vehicles improves fuel economy by 50 to 75 percent and cuts carbon emissions in half.

“We bring dramatic fuel economy improvements to existing automotive powertrains”

“We bring dramatic fuel economy improvements to existing automotive powertrains,” said Brian Ahlborn, president and CEO, Transonic Combustion, Inc. “Our approach to energy efficiency will help the automotive industry meet 2016 fuel economy and emissions regulations. On a national level, our near term solution promotes energy security and a low carbon future.”

Transonic Combustion has been recognized as one of the nation’s key players in automotive energy efficiency. It is collaborating with three global automakers to test and develop the first commercial system that generates “supercritical” fuel for future production of fuel efficient, low emission vehicles. The internal combustion engine is expected to remain the industry standard for traditional and hybrid-powered vehicles. Transonic Combustion’s relative drop-in technology is a significant enhancement to this dominant engine platform, and is designed to work with gasoline and biofuels such as cellulosic ethanol.

The Advanced Research Projects Agency – Energy, or ARPA-E, will host its first event, the ARPA-E Energy Innovation Summit, March 1–3, 2010 in Washington DC. The Summit will promote collaboration between the public and private sectors to reach the nation’s energy goals and bring together members of the scientific and research communities, investors, technology entrepreneurs, corporations with an interest in clean energy technologies, policymakers and government officials. Transonic will showcase its fuel injection technology at the Gaylord National Hotel & Convention Center in booth #225.
