NOTES
Jamie McMurray and No. 1 Team
MEDIA ALERT: Jamie McMurray will be available in the media center for a brief media Q&A session on Friday, Feb. 26 at 2:10 p.m. ET
Las Vegas Stats: McMurray will be making his seventh NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (NSCS) start at Las Vegas Motor Speedway this weekend. He has a best start and finish of fourth from the 2004 season with Ganassi. McMurray has completed all but one lap in the last six visits to LVMS.
Last week: McMurray and the No. 1 team started the weekend off strong by winning the pole, becoming the first driver in NASCAR history to win the Daytona 500 and pole the following weekend. The rest of the race at Auto Club Speedway saw an ill-handling race car but managed to salvage a top-20 finish by coming home in 17th-place. McMurray is currently 4th in the 2010 NSCS standings, 29 point behind leader Kevin Harvick.
Passing Action: According to NASCAR's Loop Statistics, McMurray currently holds the second-place spot for Most Green Lap Passes at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. He has 331 passes, just 27 passes behind the leader, Carl Edwards, over the last four years at the 1.5-mile track.
Bass Pro Shopping: Outdoor enthusiasts in the Las Vegas area can get all their hunting, fishing and tailgating supplies at the Bass Pro Shops at 8200 Dean Martin Dr. The store can be reached at 702-730-5200.
Lure of Vegas: It would take 21,120 of the four and a half inch Bass Pro Shops® Cut Tail Worm lures placed end-to-end to go the 1.5-mile distance of LVMS.
Home Sweet Home: Earnhardt Ganassi Racing's Jamie McMurray will return to his home state of Missouri on Thursday February 25th to accept recognition from state legislators, in the capitol Jefferson City, for his Daytona 500 victory. McMurray will be recognized by both the Senate and the House of Representatives for his achievement on the high banks of Daytona International Speedway two weeks ago. McMurray was born and raised in nearby Joplin, Mo.
Juan Pablo Montoya and No. 42 Target Team
Viva Las Vegas: Juan Pablo Montoya will be making his fourth NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (NSCS) start at Las Vegas Motor Speedway this weekend. His best start was fourth in his Rookie season (2007) and best finish of 19th came in 2008. Montoya has completed 813 out of 819 laps at the mile-and-a-half facility (99.3%).
Vegas Rewind: In 2009, Montoya and the No.42 Energizer Chevrolet started 23rd and appeared to have a car that would contend for a solid finish. Montoya advanced from 23rd to ninth within the first six laps, three of which under caution. The team maintained a top-15 running spot for the first 100 laps of 285. Bad luck struck the No.42 team when Clint Bowyer's Chevy made slight contact with Montoya, resulting in a tire rub and going a lap down to the leaders. The team had an uphill battle for the remaining 185 laps and had to settle for a 31st-place finish.
About California: The Target team finished 37th in last Sunday's NSCS event at Auto Club Speedway in California. The No.42 Target Chevrolet started on the outside pole and led the first 29 laps of the 500-mile event. He was clocked at 181.164 mph on lap 2, logging the fastest lap of the entire race and earning the Goodyear "Gatorback Fastest Lap" award. Montoya spent 99 laps in the top 15 before an engine failure on lap 140 ended the day prematurely.
Target Love: On February 14, Target ended the campaign Super Love Sender benefitting five national charities to fund educational programming. The online community was invited to visit facebook.com/Target and help decide how Target would split $1 million between the Kids In Need Foundation, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital®, The Salvation Army, United Through Reading® Military Program and United Way. In just two weeks, online supporters spread the love by helping St. Jude Children's Research Hospital® come in first with more than 49 percent of total votes resulting in a $490,000 donation. For more information visit Target.com.
Golfing for a Cause in Colombia: Montoya will host the Juan Pablo Montoya Celebrity Pro-Am presented by Helm on Tuesday of next week in Bogotá, Colombia. Montoya, an avid golfer and pro-golfer friend Camilo Villegas, will play an active role in officially welcoming the Nationwide Tour to Colombia for the very first PGA golf tournament in South America. Proceeds from Tuesday's tournament will support the Camilo Villegas Fund and Montoya's Foundation, Formula Sonrisas. Formula Sonrisas supports youth development through sports.
