MULGRAVE, AUSTRALIA – February 23, 2010: Mercedes-Benz has released its Australian range of 2010 Sprinter and Vito light commercial vehicles.

These popular van and cab-chassis models now enjoy a number of enhancements which focus on safety, performance and fuel consumption.

Some of the highlights from these 2010 product revisions are detailed below. Please click on the link at the top of the screen for the full press kit.

The Mercedes-Benz Sprinter
The popular Sprinter receives a number of changes for 2010. They include:

  • All engines (four-cylinder and V6 turbo-diesel CDI) are now EU5-compliant, making the Sprinter the first van in Australia to meet the EU5 emission standard.
  • ECO Gear: the four-cylinder Sprinter models now receive a new van-specific six-speed manual transmission, designed to lower engine speeds when travelling and therefore fuel consumption.
  • A number of BlueEFFICIENCY measures are now fitted to the Sprinter range. These are also designed to minimise the vehicle’s rate of fuel consumption and include both demand-controlled ancillary units and ECO Start/Stop technology, which automatically stops and re-starts the engine when stationary.
  • The Sprinter NGT (Natural Gas Technology) is now available for sale in Australia - the first NGT-powered Sprinter to be offered locally. These clean-running units are ideally suited to fleet operators already fitted with natural gas refuelling facilities, many of which have requested to trial this new-to-Australia model. The 316 NGT is available as a MWB and LWB van as well as a LWB chassis. The 516 NGT is available as a LWB single cab-chassis.
  • Front-passenger airbag and adaptive brake lights which flash in an emergency are now standard in all Mercedes-Benz Sprinter models
