Line Qualifies Fifth in Phoenix, Keeps Wary Eye on Racetrack

Event: Arizona NHRA Nationals
Location: Firebird Raceway, Chandler, AZ
Day/Date: Saturday, February 20, 2010

Jason Line and the Summit Racing team faced several challenges heading into the final day of qualifying at the Arizona NHRA Nationals in Phoenix, AZ. Faced with one final attempt to secure their spot in the field after a morning rainstorm, the KB Racing crew knew they would need to improve on their 6.670-second best from Friday as cooler temperatures which had moved into the area were certain to produce better times among the carbureted “factory hot rods??. This assignment was further complicated by a suspect racing surface, which produced an unlikely second Pro Stock crash.

Fortunately, the KB Racing crew responded with the third quickest pass of the session, a 6.638-second, 209.20 mph effort which netted the 2006 Pro Stock champion the fifth starting position. Although fairly pleased with the final result, Line admitted there was more work left to be done.
.
“This Summit Racing team certainly overcame some issues today,?? said Line. “Although it certainly wasn’t a great run, it was our best of the weekend so far, and allowed us to move into a position where we will have lane choice for the first round tomorrow, which looks like it will be extremely significant based on what we saw today.

“At the very least, we seem to be headed in the right direction, and if I hadn’t given up so much on the starting line, that last run could have been a lot better. All in all, it wasn’t a bad effort, and we have somewhere to start from tomorrow. I believe we have something to work with, and hopefully they will be able to resolve the issues they have been having with the racetrack, because we could be in position to have a great day.??
