SX-Fore! - Suzuki Sponsors Longest Drive Contest
LAVERTON, AUSTRALIA – February 18, 2010: Suzuki Australia is joining the hunt to find Australia’s biggest hitter as the official sponsor of the RE/MAX World Long Drive Championship Australia.
The quest to find who can drive a golf ball longer than any other Australian is open to all players.
Teeing off this month it offers the chance to be invited to the World Long Drive Championship in Las Vegas and compete for prize money totalling $500,000.
The Australian championship begins with a series of regional qualifying events at golf clubs and driving ranges in Queensland, NSW, ACT, Victoria and Western Australia between February and August.
The winners from the regional qualifiers will compete at the Australian championship at Palm Meadows on the Gold Coast in August.
A total of four titles will be up for grabs – Open, Senior (golfers aged 45-50) Super Senior (golfers aged 50 and over) and Amateur.
Golfers can bring their own favourite driver – as long as it meets official US Golf Association requirements – or suitable equipment will be available for use on the day.
Each player will have a total of six balls to hit down a fairway target ranging from 35 to 55 metres wide.
They will have to match the efforts of reigning champ Craig Gigson, who last year managed to hit an astonishing 355 metre drive.
“As part of the launch of the new SX4, we saw sponsorship of the World Long Drive Championship as an excellent fit,” said Suzuki Australia General Manager Tony Devers.
“We will be supplying the organisers with our new SX4 sedan which, apart from boasting excellent performance, fuel efficiency and the highest safety levels, also boasts a boot bigger than a Holden Commodore, making it the perfect vehicle to travel to and from the golf course in total comfort.”
