German-Engineered Kalkhoff Electric Bicycles Now Available in the United States
PORTLAND, Ore.--Greenlight Bikes, LLC, today announced the immediate availability of Kalkhoff bicycles and e-bikes to the North American market. Kalkhoff is one of Europe’s largest and most recognized bicycle brands, and offers a broad range of conventional and high-performance electric models ideal for urban transportation, touring and everyday recreation. Kalkhoff bikes are now available for purchase at www.kalkhoffusa.com.
“Kalkhoff e-bikes are designed to put riders in control of how much effort they wish to exert in any given situation”
Kalkhoff’s pedal-assist electric bicycles, also known as pedelecs or e-bikes, are extremely popular throughout Europe because of their design, range and performance. They use an electric motor to supplement the power a rider applies to the pedals, providing a smooth, predictable boost. Operated the same way as a traditional bicycle, Kalkhoff e-bikes make running errands, commuting or riding for pleasure easy, efficient and fun.
“E-bikes are a clean and inexpensive form of transportation that make it simple for anyone to integrate cycling into their daily lives,” said Geoffrey Wagner, managing director of Greenlight Bikes, the exclusive U.S. importer of Kalkhoff bicycles. “Moreover, by eliminating hills or distance as major obstacles, electric bicycles provide non-cycling adults the opportunity to experience the excitement and joy of bike riding they might not have felt since they were kids.”
Kalkhoff Electric Bicycles – Serious Transportation, Seriously Fun
The design and operation of Kalkhoff electric bicycles differs significantly from other e-bikes currently offered in the United States, most of which use either front- or rear-powered hubs and many of which require the use of a throttle.
The Kalkhoff pedelec system seamlessly applies power from the center-mounted electric motor directly to the bicycle’s drive train. The level of motor assistance is dictated by the amount of power the rider generates while pedaling. A torque sensor continuously measures the rider’s power output, and the motor delivers a pre-selected percentage of additional assistance ranging from 50% to 150% on top of what the rider produces.
“Kalkhoff e-bikes are designed to put riders in control of how much effort they wish to exert in any given situation,” said Wagner. “Someone wearing business attire on the way to an important meeting might decide to take full advantage of the power-assist system, whereas people riding to improve fitness might wish to rely more heavily upon their own power.”
With a range of up to 50 miles per charge, Kalkhoff e-bikes can cover most daily distances including hills and then some. The bikes look, feel and ride like standard bicycles and are built with the same high-quality frames and components as the conventional bikes in the company’s lineup.
Kalkhoff Commuting, Touring and City Bikes
Kalkhoff’s line of standard bikes comes in a wide variety of configurations suited for riding comfortably and in style across town or across the country. Several distinctive frame geometries are offered, including step-through frames that are typically used on European city bikes. Seating positions range from upright to aggressive.
Kalkhoff’s Premium Quality and Service
All Kalkhoff bikes are built to last and come with a comprehensive two-year warranty. All bikes are shipped free of charge and include a free tune-up at any bike shop. They also come fully equipped with everything a bike intended to be ridden on a daily basis should. This includes a powerful lighting system, full-coverage fenders, a chain guard, puncture-resistant tires, a kickstand and a rack system. Some models also come with a rack-mounted pump and built-in quick-lock.
