LONESOME PINE RACEWAY PROMOTER FAVORS ASA'S GRASS ROOTS ATMOSPHERE
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
American Speed Association PR
DAYTONA BEACH, FL (Tuesday, February 16, 2010) - Harold Crook always has a smile
 on his face and his passion for short track racing is clearly noticeable.  As the
promoter of Lonesome Pine Raceway, an ASA Member Track in Coeburn, VA, Crook enjoys
using his track as an example to other promoters why they should be part of the
ASA Member Track program.
Crook recently renewed Lonesome Pine as an ASA Member Track for the 2010 season.
  The decision was an easy one for him for a simple reason, "If I need to talk to
the owner of ASA, I call him and I can talk to him.  If I was to call most other
 sanctioning bodies and ask to speak to the vice-president or the president, who
 do you think I will get? Not the one I want to talk too," Crook exclaimed.  "When
you go hands on hand with the racers, the owners, everybody it's a whole lot better
in my opinion.  If a racer has problems with one of the officials, he doesn't go
 to the official he wants to go to the person that tells the official what to do.
 Well I think Dennis (Huth, ASA President) tells you how he runs things and when
 you go and talk to Dennis, he can answer the question.  He doesn't have to ask
anybody else."
The one theme that Crook uses to describe Lonesome Pine's relationship with the
American Speed Association is how they use more of a "grass roots" level of thinking
versus a corporate level.  " When they (ASA) come to our racetrack and they mingle
with our drivers, its like they are part of the program instead of being...oh gosh,
you have to be on your best behavior because here is ASA folks and its not like
that," Crook said. "It's a family oriented deal and that is what racing is.  This
is a family oriented sport and it has to be.  We don't have the big corporate sponsors
that most of these places do, but we do have a lot of good sponsors.  We depend
on our local grass root folks to sponsor our races and I think that is what ASA
does."
He also states that his competitors appreciate the insurance program that comes
with an ASA membership, "They are real responsive. The insurance plan they provide
through WSIB Motorsports Insurance for not only to the competitors but for the track
itself is second to none," Crook said.  He also sees another value with being an
 ASA Member Track, "I think it's an asset to a racetrack to have the sanction because
I think of the exposure for one thing and they can also call and talk to Dennis
or his people about ASA's rules and regulations."
Crook has set a goal to increase his car count for the 2010 season, which will include
a busy but yet fan and racer friendly schedule, "We have a full schedule with about
22 to 23 events, a couple touring events," Crook said.  "Our biggest deal are Kids
Nights.  We do a lot of Kids Nights at the Speedway.  When we race on a normal month
when its four Saturday nights, we race three of those Saturday nights and take off
one to let the folks re-group.  There is a lot of excitement with a lot of new cars
being built.  I hope we have a lot of new fans.  Our goal is to have 100 race cars
every Saturday night and we are about 28-30 away from that number.  We need fans
 to visit our website and get a lot of information to see what Lonesome Pines is
 all about."
He also encourages other racetracks around the country to become an ASA Member Track,
"When a person talks about sanction, I think the first thing that comes to their
 mind is money especially at this day and time.  But money is not the issue with
 ASA.  Of course it does cost like anything else you do.  But it's not astronomical
like the other end of it is with some of the other sanctions," Crook explained.
 "I think anybody that is interested in doing a sanction, they need to call Dennis
and the American Speed Association and get the true facts before they decide they
are going to do their sanction."
"Harold has been a long time friend and a strong advocate of what our goals are,"
Dennis Huth, ASA President said.  "He puts on a great weekly race program that I
 would encourage all fans and competitors in his area to go and check out.  You
will find a person who is passionate about this sport and will do what it takes
to make everyone involved successful.
