AAA Chicago: February Gas Prices Decline

AURORA, Ill.--Fuel prices have decreased in Illinois and northern Indiana, over the past month largely due to the decline in the price of oil and the strengthening of the U.S. dollar. AAA Chicago’s most recent Fuel Gauge Report estimates that in Illinois, regular unleaded gasoline has decreased 15 cents during the past month, forecasting an average cost of $2.69 per gallon for the month of February, which is still $.78 higher per gallon than last year.

In northern Indiana, gas prices average $2.61, which down 17 cents from January 2010 and up $.69 from February 2009.

  • In Cook County, Ill., self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages $2.83, which is down $.13 cents from last month and $.81 higher than last year’s price-per-gallon.
  • In DuPage County, Ill., self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages $2.70 per gallon, which is a 17-cent decrease from January and $.75 higher than last year.
  • In Kane County, Ill., self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages $2.65 per gallon, which is 20 cents lower compared to last month and $.71 higher than February 2009’s price.
  • In Lake County, Ill., self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages $2.67 per gallon, which is 17 cents lower than last month and up by $.74 compared to this time last year.
  • In McHenry County, Ill., self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages $2.64 per gallon, which is 21 cents lower than month’s average and $.71 higher than February 2009’s price.
  • In Will County, Ill., self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages $2.70 per gallon, which is 15 cents lower compared to last month and $.74 higher compared to last year.
  • In Champaign County, Ill., self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages $2.60 per gallon, a decrease of 17 cents from January and an increase of $.74 from last year.
  • In McLean County, Ill., self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages $2.59 per gallon, which is 13 cents lower than last month and $.71 higher than last year.
  • In Peoria County, Ill., self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages $2.63 per gallon, which is a 12-cent decrease compared to last month and a $.75 increase from February 2009.
  • In Sangamon County, Ill., self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages $2.59 per gallon, which is 10 cents lower than last month and $.74 higher than last year.
  • In Winnebago County, Ill., self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages $2.58 per gallon, a decrease of 21 cents from January and an increase of $.63 from February 2009.
  • In Allen County, Ind., self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages $2.60 per gallon, which is a decrease of 17 cents from last month and $.65 higher than February 2009’s price.
  • In Lake County, Ind., self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages $2.60 per gallon, a 17-cent decrease from January’s average and a $.68 increase from a year ago.
  • In Porter County, Ind., self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages $2.62 per gallon, which is 15 cents lower than last month and $.68 higher than last year.
  • In St. Joseph County, Ind., self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages $2.59 per gallon, which is 15 cents lower compared to last month and $.78 higher compared to last year.
