Something for Everyone in Shannons Sydney Sale
SYDNEY – February 12, 2010: The health of the Australia classic auction market will be tested this Monday (February 15) at Shannons annual Sydney Summer sale in which a wide range of affordable vehicles is going under the hammer – many with no reserve price.
Heading the quirky classics is a rare three-headlight, rear-engined V8, 1963 Tatra 603 Series saloon that originally was imported for the Czechoslovakian Consul-General and it is the only known example of the model in Australia.
Shannons expect this head-turning and highly collectible classic to sell with no reserve in the $16,000- $22,000 range.
Also offered with no reserve is a 1990 model Citroen 2CV6 Charleston sedan in showroom condition.
Believed to be one of only seven late-model 2CV Charleston models sold new in Australia, the presents as well underneath as its original unblemished burgundy and black paintwork. Shannons expect it to sell in the $12-$16,000 range.
At the other end of the Citroen range in style and technology is a nicely presented 1972-model right hand drive Citroen SM 3.0-litre coupe – one of just 12,920 Maserati V6-engined examples built before the model was discontinued in 1975. This collectible classic has a guiding range of $33-$38,000.
Also quirky, but for its adherence to tradition rather than technical innovation, is the beautifully presented 1955 Morgan Plus 4 Roadster that is expected to sell in the $30,000-$35.000 range.
Monaro enthusiasts will be drawn to a very original 1976 Holden HX LE that comes equipped with its original honeycomb mag wheels, air conditioning, power steering, driving lights and 8-track cartridge stereo system.
Although Holden never described the model as a ‘Monaro’, the HX LE has since been recognised as one by Holden enthusiasts and is now an increasingly collectible classic. Shannons expect it to sell for $32,000-$36,000.
Stepping back in time, Veteran enthusiasts will be interested in the 1913 Hupmobile Model 32 Tourer that was sold new in Adelaide by H.V. McKay Motors and still retains the dealer’s pressed metal badge on its dashboard.
The Canadian-built car being auctioned was used in the Moree district of New South Wales for some years before being discovered by the current owner in complete, but not running condition.
A full restoration was completed in 2001, including engine, gearbox, differential and all mechanical parts and according to Shannons the car presents in very good condition. It is being sold with no reserve and is expected to sell in the $36,000-$42,000 range.
Also offered with no reserve is a very attractive 1922 Willys Overland Tourer that underwent a complete body and mechanical restoration in 1984. It is expected to sell in the $14,000-$18,000 range.
