Tim George Jr. Makes His Debut as an RCR Development Driver
MOORESVILLE, N.C.
(February 11, 2010) -Tim George Jr. made his debut as an RCR
development driver in the ARCA series this past weekend at the Lucas Oil Slick
Mist 200 at Daytona International Speedway. This was George Jr.'s second start
at the 2.5-mile tri-oval superspeedway and fourth ARCA Racing Series start at a
superspeedway.
Throughout the weekend, NASCAR Sprint Cup Spotter and RCR
Vice President of Competition Mike Dillon was on the spotter's stand, coaching
and spotting for Tim George Jr. "I appreciated having Dillon on the spotter's
stand. He really helped me find my line and get more comfortable on a
superspeedway."
After qualifying on Friday, George Jr. set out to support his
teammates Clint Bowyer and Austin and Ty Dillon at the dirt race taking place
at Volusia Speedway Park. George Jr. remarked on the dirt races, "Dirt is a
different world. I'd like to get in one of those cars sometime - it looks fun.
With Austin getting the pole and winning at Volusia, I think I would have some
good help if I were to get in one."
Race day at Daytona started off with an open garage,
allowing George Jr. to meet and greet many of his fans - taking pictures and
signing autographs for fans from all over the world. There was a growing
presence of fans from England, and the drivers were happy to see crowded
grandstands.
Throughout the race, Richard Childress joined his son-in-law
Mike Dillon and helped coach George Jr. on the radio. George Jr. started the
race in 34thposition, but with experience in his ear, he quickly
raced his way to 13thposition. At the conclusion of the race,
George Jr. was able to hold onto a 19thplace finish, which gives
this newly assembled RCR team excitement moving into the second event of the
season. "We accomplished our goal
of staying on the lead lap and getting more comfortable as a team," George Jr.
said. "The race didn't go exactly as planned. We were caught up in an incident
on lap seven, which left us with some damage that really hurt my ability to
draft well. I have to thank Chevy for all that power, the RCR No. 29 'Cup pit
crew for great stops, and the RCR No. 31 ARCA guys for all the hard work."
Although the racing was finished for the weekend, George
Jr.'s busy schedule did not slow down. Tim George Jr. was off to Miami for an
appearance at a pre-Super Bowl party Saturday evening. On Sunday, he sat at the
50-yard line and watched the New Orleans Saints defeat the Indianapolis Colts
and win the Super Bowl. Monday, the No. 31 RCR Development Chevy was back on
the track at Palm Beach International Speedway, as George Jr. and team took
part in the ARCA open test, where he was third fastest overall.
The No. 31 will have a different look at the next ARCA
series event held at Palm Beach International Speedway on February 27th.
Tim George Jr. will be racing for the Buoniconti Fund to Cure Paralysis. As he
did in the Rolex 24 at Daytona, George Jr. will donate his share of the winnings
from the race to the Buoniconti Fund. Having spent much of his racing career in
the Rolex Grand Am series, George Jr. is hoping his road course racing
experience will lead to his first ARCA victory and a sizable donation to the
Buoniconti Fund.
