Jeg Coughlin is a four-time NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series Pro
Stock champion. He earned season titles in 2000, 2002, 2007 and 2008. As a
sportsman driver, Jeg also claimed the NHRA Super Gas championship in 1992.
Last season, Jeg enjoyed one of his best years as a professional racer
winning seven of 23 events and reaching the final round in two others. He
compiled a round-win record of 50-17, the second best record in the class.
Jeg also won the last 50th anniversary event held in Pomona in 2001,
celebrating the sanctioning body’s golden anniversary. All told, Jeg has six
wins and four runner-up finishes in Pro Stock competition in Pomona.
In 11 appearances at the NHRA Winternationals, Jeg has a win-loss record
of 18-8 in Pro Stock Competition. In 25 career appearances at Auto Club
Dragway Pomona, which is also the site of the season-ending Auto Club Finals,
Jeg has a round win record of 45-18 in Pro Stock competition.
At least year’s season opener in Pomona, Jeg qualified his JEGS.com Cobalt
No. 6 and reached the second round of Pro Stock before losing to Allen
Johnson. He left Pomona in fifth place and was never ranked lower than that
at any point during the 2009 season.
With 48 career Pro Stock wins, Jeg ranks fourth all-time among Pro Stock
drivers. Only Warren Johnson (96), Bob Glidden (85) and Greg Anderson (60)
have more titles.
In 1998, Jeg Coughlin made his first Pro Stock start at Auto Club Raceway
in Pomona and reached the final round. He returned to post back-to-back
wins in 1999 and 2000.
In 1999, Jeg defeated his older brother Troy to win the Winternationals
Pro Stock title. The Coughlin brothers also raced in the final of the 1999
Denver event, with Jeg once again claiming the win.
Jeg’s best elapsed time at Auto Club Dragway at Pomona is 6.588-seconds,
recorded during the 2009 Winternationals.
As a sportsman driver, Jeg was also runner-up at the 1995 Winternationals
in the Super Stock class, losing a close final against former world
champion John Calvert.
In addition to his JEGS.com Pro Stock Cobalt, Jeg will also be racing his
new Dodge “Drag Pak�?? Challenger in Stock Eliminator. Jeg has previously
won national event titles in Pro Stock, Comp, Super Stock, Super Gas, and Top
Sportsman but is still seeking his first Stock title.
Jeg’s fiancйe, Samantha Kenny, will be racing a JEGS.com dragster in the
Super Comp class. Samantha won the Super Comp title at the 2009 Norwalk
event and her father, Alan and brother, Jason, are both former NHRA national
event winners.
In 259 career Pro Stock races, Jeg has reached the final round 77 times,
recording 47 wins. Including his 14 sportsman victories, Jeg has won a total
of 61 times, good for ninth place on NHRA’s all time wins list. During his
career, Jeg has appeared in 95 final rounds, 77 as a professional and 18
as a sportsman racer.
