India Feb 3, 2010 - Mahindra & Mahindra commercially launched its 0.9 tonner light truck Maxximo at a price range starting from Rs 2.79 lakh (ex-showroom Navi Mumbai). Tata Motors' light truck Ace, which has 90 per cent of the sub-tonne market, is priced in the Rs 2.79-3.55-lakh range.
However, Mahindra claims more carrying capacity (850 kg) for Maxximo. “Maxximo is the world's first mini-truck with common rail diesel engine (CRDe) technology. It also offers free maintenance for one year or 40,000 km,” said Mr Rajesh Jejurikar, Chief of Operations, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd.
The company will start with a monthly production of 2,000 units of Maxximo at its Chakan plant which can be ramped up to 3,000 units. Mr Jejurikar said six months after the domestic launch, the company will look at exporting Maxximo to “India-like markets”.
The company claims 25 km/litre mileage for Maxximo. It has plans for electric and CNG variants. Maxximo will be first launched in select markets and will be made available across the country in a phased manner.
The company is developing a BS-IV compliant version of Maxximo in view of the impending emission norm changes.
