Calinoff, full-time NSCS spotter for Matt Kenseth in the No. 17 Crown Royal Ford, will spot for Piquette, Jr. in the ARCA Racing Series presented by RE/MAX and Menards and NASCAR Camping World Truck Series races at Daytona International Speedway. Piquet, Jr., son of three-time Formula One Series Champion Nelson Piquet, will make his ARCA Racing Series debut in the Lucas Oil Slick Mist 200 driving the No. 6 Toyota fielded by Eddie Sharp Racing. The Brazilian driver, who has raced in open-wheel and sports car racing series since 2001, will also make his NASCAR debut in the NextEra Energy Resources 250 driving for Red Horse Racing in the Camping World Truck Series. Spotting for Piquet, Jr. will not be Mike Calinoff's first venture with a former open-wheel driver. In 2007, Calinoff worked with Scottish IndyCar driver Dario Franchitti during his first foray into stock car racing. "I'm really looking forward to working with Nelson at Daytona," said Calinoff. "I have experience working with open-wheel drivers transitioning into stock car racing, and I hope to make the jump as seamless as possible. Nelson is an extremely talented driver who will bring additional international flavor to ARCA and NASCAR, and I know the next two weekends are going to be fun." ARCA Racing Series team owner Eddie Sharp confirmed his confidence in Calinoff as a spotter. "Mike has a great track record working with drivers who have transitioned from open wheel to stock cars," said Sharp. "He was the logical choice." Piquet, Jr. and Calinoff's first partnership will be the ARCA Racing Series race on Saturday, Feb. 6, followed by Piquet, Jr.'s debut in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series on Friday, Feb 12.
