Two of the highest dignitaries included the Honorable Donald H. Gips, the United States Ambassador to South Africa and Ace Magashule, Free State Premier. Ambassador Gips gave the drivers the command to start their engines for the event. "It's a great example of partnership between South Africa and the United States and we are so happy to have this brought here," Ambassador Gips said. "It's a fulfillment of a dream that I know a number of people have been working on for a number of years and I feel very lucky to participate." He was also excited to see the number of fans at the event, "It's incredible," he said. "It's a beautiful track and seeing everyone coming in to watch it today with the energy and enthusiasm. A bunch of my staff drove up here with me today because they were so excited to participate. It's just a wonderful event the way around." Free State Premier Ace Magashule explained that this event meant a lot for the Free State of Africa, "Today's race is an important event because the people of the world are here and we have said let's make a better world, let's make friendships with people of the world," Premier Magashule said. "The people here have spent money here, had accomodations, and food. It generated our economy and they got to enjoy their new friends and enjoyed what our province had to offer." The Premier also said that the ASA Transcontinental Series will be invited back next year, "We look forward to you coming back next year," he said. "We should have it again next year and for years to come. Together we can do more, yes we can." "We are very grateful to have Ambassador Gips participate in our event and extremely grateful to Premier Magashule for his hospitality that his province provided to our teams and officials for the ASA Free State 500," Dennis Huth, ASA President said. "This event was historical in many ways and we hope they enjoyed the event." The teams will enjoy a day of relaxation at The Savannah Africa on Monday before traveling back to Johannesburg on Tuesday for the return flight to the United States.
