*Matt Lofton to Make His ARCA Racing Series Debut At Daytona *
*FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE*
Mooresville, N.C. (January 29, 2010) – USARacing Pro Cup Series regular,
Matt Lofton, will be joining the ARCA Racing Series presented by Re/Max and
Menards on February 6th at Daytona International Speedway. He will be
making his first appearance in the series and will debut the No. 97
Strutmasters.com Chevrolet in the Lucas Oil Slick Mist 200. He expects to
take the season-opener by storm and walk away a winner.
“Our goal is to go down there and win. We have the equipment to do it, and
we definitely have the people lined up to do it,” commented Lofton. “Anything
less than a top-five would be a disappointment because we know we have the
capabilities of doing well.”
While that may sound like a strong statement coming from a “Rookie” in both
the ARCA Series and at the famed super speedway, Lofton has been working
hard over the last year. This is especially true this past off-season, as
he has been getting ready for the big event that is a mere week away.
“I completed the ARCA test in 2008 for Daytona and went back down there in
December of 2009 with some plans to run the race and did the test again. So
this will be the third time going there, but my first time actually racing
there.”
Lofton ended the 2009 season 7th in points in the USARacing Pro Cup Series,
which was his best season so far in his racing career. He felt it was as
good a time as any to jump up to the next level, and that was making a trip
to Daytona. As with most drivers, Daytona holds such a special place in
their racing careers, and Lofton couldn’t be happier to be attending this
years’ event.
“Everybody that ends up racing at Daytona knows it’s kind of the Superbowl
of racing, so to have the opportunity to go down there is so incredibly
exciting. There’s been so much energy around the shop over the last month
or so. This is somewhat like a dream come true, and I’m really looking
forward to this opportunity.”
So does this mean Lofton will be a familiar face in the ARCA Series in 2010?
Well, maybe. They do plan on running a few races throughout the season, but
the ultimate decision is how well they run at Daytona.
“Right now we are going to run a handful of ARCA and Pro Cup races. We
don’t know exactly what the schedule is going to be in both series, but we
are going to the first race in Daytona for ARCA and going to the first race
in Pro Cup at Gresham Motorsports Park. We will kind of evaluate our season
from there.”
The Lucas Oil Slick Mist 200 is the first event of the ARCA Racing Series
2010 schedule and will be aired live on SPEED at 4:30pm on February 6, 2010.
