Teamsters 'Children Speak Out for Justice' Event to be Held Outside NAIAS Charity Preview

DETROIT January 15, 2010; This evening, Teamster members and their children will be hand-billing at the North American International Auto Show's 2010 Charity Preview to vocalize the detrimental effects Fiat/Chrysler's and Toyota's plans to move away from longtime professional carhaulers to cut-rate brokers will have on their ability to support their children. The hand-billing event, "Children Speak Out for Justice", is scheduled to take place at 7 p.m. at the main entrance of the Detroit Cobo Center.
Fiat/Chrysler is replacing its longtime carhaul providers with cheaper, less experienced carriers. This move may lead to the loss of 5,000 carhaul jobs and the inability for parents to support the needs of their families and children. This puts more families on charity lines when Michigan charities are already suffering under the heavy burden generated by the recession.
At the gathering, the Teamster families will be adorned in black tie appropriate clothing as required by the 2010 Charity Preview and carry signs that say, "Fiat/Chrysler is Uncharitable," and "Toyota: Carhaul Jobs Keep Me Healthy."
