John Wins First Career NHRA National Event as a Pro

When NHRA's Pro Stock Truck class began in 1998, it immediately became a fiercely competitive professional category that lured some of the most skilled and accomplished Sportsman racers in the country anxious to make their marks in a professional class.

One of those drivers was John Coughlin, an established and successful Sportsman racer with plenty of experience at winning on the national event stage. He took to the new class with gusto, challenging for every event title as he searched for his first pro-level victory.

As if written by a Hollywood filmmaker, John's wish came true in 1999 at his hometown track -- National Trail Raceway on the outskirts of Columbus, Ohio -- where the oldest of legend Jeg Coughlin Sr.'s four sons scored in front of a boisterous crowd filled with friends, family members, and JEGS associates.

In the final round, facing the always-tough Brad Jeter, John simply wouldn't be denied, taking his JEGS High Performance Chevy S-10 to the finish line first, and proudly representing the Coughlin family in the winner's circle of the annual Springnationals.
