"Celebrating Progress and Potential for Safer Sustainable Vehicles" is the theme of the 2010 SAE International Government/Industry Meeting set Jan. 26, 2010-29 at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center, Washington, D.C. This event is co-located with the Washington Auto Show(R).

The 2010 SAE International Government/Industry Meeting opens Tuesday, Jan. 26, at 3 p.m. with a plenary session co-sponsored by EDTA that will look back at the early environmental and safety milestones and advances, along with the role of government agencies throughout this process. The session will be moderated by Dan Ryan, Manager of Government and Safety Affairs, Mazda North American Operations, and SAE 2010 Government/Industry Meeting General Chair. Panelists will include Jack Basso, Director of Program and Finance, AASHTO; Joe Kanianthra, President, Active Safety Engineering; Dave McCurdy, President and CEO, Alliance of Automobile Manufacturers; Roland Hwang, Transportation Program Director, Natural Resources Defense Council; and Thomas Kuhn, President, Edison Electric.
David Strickland, newly confirmed administrator of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, will give the opening remarks at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 27; Gil Sperling, EERE Senior Advisor for Policy and Programs, U.S. Dept. of Energy, will give the opening remarks at 9 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 28, and Gina McCarthy, Assistant Administrator for the Office of Air and Radiation, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency will give the opening remarks at 9:00 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 29.
