Pioneer In-Vehicle Multi-Media Receivers Entertain, Connect and Communicate

LAS VEGAS--CES Booth #1001 - Pioneer Electronics (USA) Inc. today announced five new in-dash multi-media receivers designed to deliver exceptional audio and video entertainment, portable device connectivity and enhanced communication capability to the automotive environment. The “AVH” series multi-media receivers consist of three double DIN units, the AVH-P3200DVD, AVH-P3200BT and AVH-P4200DVD, and two single DIN models, AVH-P5200DVD and AVH-P5200BT. These models boast large touch screen displays from 5.8 to 7 inches and include a variety of features such as the enhanced touch slide user interface, Apple iPod®/iPhone®¹ control, USB connectivity, SD card playback, Bluetooth®, and navigation upgradeability.

This integration enhances the capabilities of the Pioneer unit while allowing the portable device to be controlled with the Pioneer user interface, which is specifically designed for in-vehicle use.”

With such a wide range of capabilities, Pioneer identified the need to create a simpler, more intuitive user interface for the AVH series multi-media receivers. This was accomplished by utilizing Pioneer’s advanced touch slide user interface, which has greatly eliminated the need to have multiple layers of menus within the control architecture. The touch slide interface enables users to quickly navigate through the control menus by touching and dragging the text on the screen. This also allows the user to easily navigate through large media lists and, when applicable, to search and sort by artist, album, song and genre. Users can fast forward and rewind through DivX®, MP3, WMA and AAC compressed audio files on DVD/CD discs² and USB connected devices by simply touching and sliding on the playback progress indicator displayed on the screen.

Advanced iPod and iPhone Integration

The AVH series receivers expand the way consumers use iPod/iPhone devices by providing direct access and iPod/iPhone specific features including:

Album Art- displays album art stored on a connected iPod/iPhone
Alphabetical Speed Search- allows the user to quickly search through lists of artists, albums and songs by scrolling alphabetically using the first letter in the name
Passenger Control for iPod- gives passengers the option to switch to direct control using the iPod/iPhone device interface
Link Play- quick access all iPod/iPhone content linked to the currently-playing artist
Three-Way Link Play- added ability to quickly access all iPod/iPhone content linked by Album and Genre in addition to artist, providing a unique method to explore large libraries of content

Connectivity

Each unit features built-in connectivity to USB storage devices³, Secure Digital (SD) memory cards, and devices with mini-jack A/V outputs for diverse media playback capabilities. All five AVH series receivers are Bluetooth⁴ hands-free communication capable (fully built-in on the AVH-P3200BT and AVH-P5200BT, and available on the AVH-P3200DVD, AVH-P4200DVD and AVH-P5200DVD with the addition of an optional Pioneer Bluetooth receiver). Optional tuners are available to add HD Radio® reception and XM® or SIRIUS® satellite radio services (activation/subscription required).

The 2010 AVH series multi-media receivers also allow users to expand their systems to include full in-dash navigation capability by utilizing Pioneer’s new add-on AVIC-U220 navigation system. The AVIC-U220 is a compact, detachable add-on unit that provides full turn-by-turn navigation and compatibility with Pioneer’s AVIC FEEDS software. The ultra flexible AVIC-U220 features a very small footprint that allows it to be installed in small spaces, and it can quickly be detached from its dock for in-home transfer of AVIC FEEDS data.

Customization

Each model offers a spectrum of options for users to customize the button illumination colors and background, adding a personal touch to the AVH series receivers.

Users can choose from 112 different button illumination colors to match their dashboard lighting, for a seamless fit with their vehicle and providing an OEM level of cosmetic integration
The customizable background feature provides users with the choice of four pre-loaded wallpapers, three background visuals (BGV), or the ability to import their own JPEG image from a CD-ROM, USB storage device, or SD card to use as wallpaper.

Video

The new systems offers playback of iPod video, DVD video discs and DivX video content. With Pioneer’s new Dual Decode⁵, users can also display JPEG images during music playback, similar to the slideshow feature commonly found on digital picture frames.

Sound

Audio output for each player is enhanced by Pioneer’s MOSFET50 50 Watts X 4 amplification, 4-Volt pre-amp outputs, High-Pass/Low-Pass crossovers for subwoofer integration, patented advanced sound retriever (ASR) to restore the musical detail lost in the creation of compressed music files, and auto equalizer for automatic tailoring of the sound to each vehicle (CD-MC20 microphone required). In addition, each AVH series receiver features Pioneer’s sonic center control, which creates a more focused sound stage with adjustments of frequency phase and acoustic characteristics by up to 15 steps.

The 2010 Audio/Video systems will be available in March 2010 ranging in suggested retail prices from $450 to $700.
