GM India sets all-time high sales record
December, 2009 sales up by 101% at 8,258 units
New Delhi January 1, 2010; Riding high on the success of the popular Chevrolet brand, General Motors India has registered a record growth of 101% in sales in December 2009, compared to the corresponding period last year. It sold 8,258 units in December 2009 against 4,041 units in December last year, making this the highest-ever monthly sales figure achieved by GM India since its inception.
The December, 2009 sales comprise of 4,147 units of the Chevrolet Spark, 1,519 units of the Chevrolet Tavera, 616 units of the Cruze, 493 units of Aveo U-Va, 374 Units of Aveo, 168 units of Chevrolet Optra, 859 units of Chevrolet Beat and 82 units of the Chevrolet Captiva. WIth this, GM India has closed the 3rd quarter of this financial year (April to December, 2009) at 55,724 units against 47,786 units sold during the corresponding period last year despite the market being sluggish till July/August due to recession. With consumer optimism slowly getting back, GM India should be able to register double digit growth this financial year as well.
Commenting on the impressive performance, Mr. P. Balendran, Vice President, GM India said "increase in distribution network, customer acceptance of our value proposition like Chevrolet Cashless Ownership offer on Spark and our brand promise in terms of quality, performance and other product attributes are the reasons for the consistent growth. Achieving these levels of growth also clearly reflects the customers’ confidence in our products. We are pleased to see such robust growth for all our car lines and we believe these world class products will further propel the Chevrolet brand in the market, he said.
Gearing up for a major drive to further consolidate its position in the automobile Market, General Motors India is now appointing more dealers and authorized service outlets in urban, semi-urban and other cities to widen its network and reach out to its valued customers across the nation. GM India's rapidly growing network of Chevrolet dealerships and service centres includes 204 authorized sales points and 191 service outlets. More are in the pipeline to support the increasing demand for GM products.
GM India's pre-owned car programme called “Chevrolet-OK” has now been expanded to 30 outlets across 24 cities. It intends to open 40 more outlets across the country by the end of 2010 thus making a total of 70 outlets for the Chevy OK programme. GM India has also entered into financing arrangements with some of the public and private sectors banks to offer low EMI schemes to its valued customers.
