Rockingham’s First Race of 2010 Arrives Friday
ROCKINGHAM, N.C. – The first racing action of 2010 at Rockingham Speedway goes under the green flag New Year’s Day with over 70 cars three abreast in the Polar Bear 150.
“We’ve got over 77 entries already, with more coming in,” said track president Andy Hillenburg. “Last January’s show was a great race and this year’s race for the Frank Kimmel Street Stock series promises to be even better for the fans.”
Dave Moody, the host of SIRIUS NASCAR Radio 128’s “SIRIUS Speedway” will be the official starter for the first race of 2010, waving the green flag for the noon start. Qualifying starts at 10:00 Friday morning, followed by an autograph session on the front straight before the race.
Jimmy Elledge, crew chief for Scott Speed’s Red Bull Racing Toyota No. 82 car has entered the race. “This race is a blast,” said Elledge, despite last year’s bad luck. “I grew up in Cup racing and always thaought that Rockingham was a very cool racetrack.” It’s a shame we (NASCAR) don’t run here anymore. Just to be able to race on a racetrack with this kind of history is a lot of fun.
“Working on this car is a lot of fun. I’ve got a shop at my house and me and my buddies get out there and work on it. I’m fortunate to be able to get some parts and pieces from Red Bull and some other teams and be able to put some stuff together and not have a whole lot of money in it.”
Tickets for the Polar Bear 150 are $15.00 in advance and $20.00 the day of the race. Ask about upgrading to a public suite
Racing continues at “The Rock” in March, with the Chump Cars Series ’24 Hours at The Rock’ for $500 cars, then the May 15 Carolina 200 USAR Pro Cup/ UARA double header and the October 9 American 200 ARCA/UARA twin championship races.
More racing pits Bandolero and Legends cars against the challenge of the “Little Rock” quarter-mile oval through March and April, joined by the Allison Legacy Series on April 18. The Firecracker Challenge brings Legends and Bandoleros to ‘Little Rock’ in June and July for more action.
