'Best of Innovations' Award-Winning Viper SmartStart From Directed Electronics Adds User-Friendly New Features

Company Also Launches Directed SmartStart Hardware, Expanding Availability to Thousands of Authorized Directed Retailers

VISTA, Calif., Dec. 30 -- Directed Electronics announced that its award-winning Viper SmartStart, which allows users to start their car from virtually anywhere with their iPhone, has been updated to provide exciting new features including 2-Way confirmation.

According to Mike Simmons, Executive Vice President of Directed Electronics: "Viper SmartStart now features eagerly anticipated 2-Way functionality with command confirmation that acknowledges when a SmartStart command has been received by the vehicle. Also, the user will receive an error message if a command doesn't get through. Other new Viper SmartStart features include vehicle name and picture customization, optional passcode operation with a user-programmed 4-digit PIN that must be entered in order to open the app, and password utilities for managing the customer's secure account log-in."

The company also announced it is shipping the new DSM100 Directed SmartStart Module (MSRP: $299) which can be added to any compatible premium security or remote start system from Directed, and expands the availability of SmartStart to thousands of authorized Directed retailers nationwide. Viper SmartStart hardware continues to be available at authorized Viper retailers including Best Buy stores.

Depending on installation, SmartStart users can start their car, lock and unlock their doors, pop their trunk, or panic their siren, which can also be used as a car finder; all using their iPhone.
