TULLAMARINE, AUSTRALIA – December 23, 2009: Honda Motor Company’s ‘Grrr’ television commercial, to launch the award winning Honda diesel engine, has been named Commercial of the Decade (Non-Super Bowl) by AdweekMedia in the US.

Created by Wieden + Kennedy, London, the Honda ‘Grrr’ commercial was chosen from 27 finalists, including advertisements from leading sports companies Nike and Adidas, and beverage companies Guinness, Smirnoff, Budweiser and Bud Light.

What AdweekMedia said: “It’s not often that you see cynical ad mavens shuffling out of the Palais de Festivals in Cannes not only smiling about a commercial but also whistling the jingle. But Honda’s ‘Grrr’—created by Wieden + Kennedy, London—is a special case.

“An unlikely mix of cute animals frolicking in a CGI Eden, flying diesel engines and the gravel-on-velvet voice of Garrison Keillor, the spot won a slew of awards in 2005. It gets ours for the best of the decade, period.”

Honda’s recognition came as part of AdweekMedia’s ‘Best of the 2000s List’, which rated the best and brightest in the branding, marketing, media and agency world in 33 categories over the past 10 years.
