Rockingham Speedway Presents 2nd Annual Polar Bear 150, New Year's Day

ROCKINGHAM, North Carolina (Tuesday, December 15, 2009) - Race fans will have the
opportunity to ring in 2010 at historic Rockingham Speedway, affectionately known
as "The Rock," which will hold its second annual Polar Bear 150 race on New Year's
Day. The Polar Bear 150 will host the Frank Kimmel Street Stock Nationals series
and will feature a variety of noteworthy names from the NASCAR and ARCA racing
communities.
Already on the entry list for the New Year's Day event are NASCAR Sprint Cup Series
crew chief Jimmy Elledge, NASCAR Sprint Cup Series spotter Tab Boyd, NASCAR Sprint
Cup Series mechanic JD Frey, and NASCAR Camping World Truck Series driver Bryan
Silas. Elledge spent the 2009 season atop the pit box for Scott Speed in the No.
82 Red Bull Toyota, while Boyd and Frey both served on the Earnhardt Ganassi Racing
No. 42 Target Chevrolet crew for 2009 NSCS Chase contender Juan Pablo Montoya. Silas
made four NCWTS starts in 2009, in addition to running full-time in the ARCA Racing
Series presented by RE/MAX and Menards.
Other notables on the Polar Bear 150 entry list, which already has 61 registrants,
are ARCA Racing Series drivers Chuck Barnes Jr., Brett Hudson, and cousins Will
and Frank Kimmel II. Barnes Jr. took the trophy in the inaugural Polar Bear 150
in 2009, and Hudson went to victory lane in the July Frank Kimmel Street Stock Nationals
race at Rockingham. Frank Kimmel II is the son of ARCA legend and series owner Frank
Kimmel, and his cousin Will, third generation ARCA driver, made three starts in
the series in 2009.
"I'm really looking forward to the second running of the Polar Bear 150," said track
owner and 1995 ARCA Racing Series champion Andy Hillenburg. "Last year we started
a New Year's tradition for racers and race fans alike, and this year's event will
be even bigger and better than the inaugural running. We've got an enormous entry
list and a bunch of all-star guests. We're hoping that families will come out and
celebrate the beginning of 2010 with us and enjoy one of the few opportunities to
see racing over the winter. It's going to be a great time."
The 2nd annual Polar Bear 150 kicks off on Thursday, December 31, 2009. Gates open
at 8:00 AM and practice sessions take place from 1:00-1:45 PM and 3:00-3:45 PM.
European-style qualifying will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, January 1, 2010, and
the green flag will drop at 12:00 PM. A driver autograph session, which will include
the starting lineup as well as Firestone Indy Lights driver Leilani Münter and some
all-star surprises, will take place at the frontstretch fence between the conclusion
of qualifying and driver introductions.
Grandstand admission for Thursday's activities is free, and tickets for Friday are
$15 in advance and $20 at the gate. Kids (12 and under) are $5. Military discounts
and public suite options are both available as well. Tickets can be purchased at
 www.rockinghamspeedway.com or by calling (910) 205-8800.
Be sure to follow Rockingham Speedway's official Twitter site, www.twitter.com/RockinghamSpeed,
which will be running special contests and ticket giveaways for the duration of
2009.
