MAM Shows Support for EDIwheel at TIF Seminar
MAM Software Presents Its EDIwheel e-business Solution at Tyre Industry Federation Seminar
SHEFFIELD, England, Dec. 9 -- MAM Software Ltd. -- a subsidiary of Aftersoft Group, Inc. and a leading provider of business management software solutions - demonstrated its support for the EDIwheel e-business protocol at the recent Tyre Industry Federation seminar.
EDIwheel is a commonly agreed e-business protocol, developed by the major tyre manufacturers to communicate on a business-to-business (B2B) basis with their trade customers. Although widely used in Europe, EDIwheel has, until now, been limited in the UK to specific relations between tyre manufacturers and certain larger wholesalers. The seminar, billed as a 'fact finding' opportunity by the Tyre Industry Federation, gave representatives from throughout the industry a chance to discuss the implications of adopting the standard.
Speaking alongside e-business specialists from the UK and Europe, MAM Software's Nigel Clemett delivered a presentation outlining the company's support for EDIwheel. He explained MAM's open approach to electronic data interchange and provided illustrations of e-business successes from elsewhere within the automotive industry.
"We believe the development of real-time messages using formats like EDIwheel is the best way to get buyers and sellers communicating electronically," he explained. "EDIwheel clearly does this, but it also provides benefits to the market - speed of response, accurate and up-to-date information and importantly for the tyre market, it is a standard set of messages."
"We have already developed similar solutions in other automotive markets and have 45 suppliers and over 600 customers actively participating in real-time e-business. These customers have experienced the benefits and want to extend it to as many of their other suppliers as possible."
Mr. Clemett concluded by presenting MAM's new EDIwheel module, developed in conjunction with Michelin and Formula1 Autocenters. The module will enable Formula1 to check real-time stock and place orders on Michelin from directly within their MAM Autopart management software. "We have successfully completed internal testing with Michelin and a pilot will begin at Formula1 this month," he said. "The groundwork we've undertaken resulted in a number of developments which we believe will make it easier for future buyers and sellers within the tyre and fast fit market to trade electronically."
Speaking after the seminar, Graham Willson, Secretary of the Tyre Industry Federation, said, "The seminar demonstrated how EDIwheel can be used as a 'building block' to standardise business processes in the tyre market. We saw illustrations of how EDIwheel could be implemented into existing business applications without compromising them. MAM has taken an important step towards offering EDI to the 'mass market', making it accessible to a wide audience of retail and wholesale outlets."
