The Wausau, WI driver will be competing at the Phakisa Freeway Circuit in Welkom, Free State, South Africa in the ASA Transcontinental Series Free State 500k on Sunday, January 31, 2010. "I'm really excited that I was invited to be a part of the trip to South Africa, it's definitely a once in a lifetime opportunity," Wimmer said. "The fact that we are able to travel to another country and show them what great racing ASA has built here in the USA is very cool and something I look forward to being a part of." Wimmer continues to have a great relationship with the American Speed Association, "I've spent a lot of time racing in some of the different ASA series," Wimmer explained. "I raced in the ASA National Tour and now have spend the last two years racing in the ASA Midwest Tour. The quality of racing in any ASA series is second to none and I know we will go to South Africa and put on a good show for the drivers and fans there. It means a lot to be included in this opportunity since ASA has been such a huge part of my racing career." Wimmer is coming off a great season in the ASA Midwest Tour where he had one win at Iowa Speedway, six top-five and eight top-ten finishes in twelve starts. This will not be the first time that he has competed on a track designed like Phakisa, "I've heard that the racetrack in Phakisa is modeled around the Las Vegas Motor Speedway racetrack," Wimmer said. "I had an opportunity to race at the old Vegas track in the Camping World Truck Series a few years ago, so I'm really looking forward to getting out on the track in South Africa and seeing what it is like." The last part of November was busy for Wimmer and his friends as they made the preparations to get his car in the container and shipped over to South Africa, "I got a late start on the preparations for South Africa and only had about a week to put everything together. I'd really like to thank Dennis Huth for inviting me to be a part of this and I definitely have to thank Kevin Cywinski," Wimmer said. "Kevin and Win-Tron Racing pulled through at the last minute finding me a quality car to take down to South Africa to race. My parents and girlfriend really helped get everything organized and put together in such a short amount of time. Dave Meyer spent three straight days helping me get the car prepared to ship out. It's kind of crazy that the car is already on its way there, and now we have time to relax and look forward to this trip." While the racing will be the focus on his trip to South Africa, he also wants to make sure he takes advantage to experience what South Africa is all about. "I got the chance to go to Mexico for a Nationwide race a few years ago and it was a great experience. Anytime you get the chance to go to another country is exciting and I'm really looking forward to going to South Africa. I have been doing some research and it looks like a really neat place. I know ASA is planning some things for us to do and I look forward to the entire experience, not just the racing." "Chris comes from a great racing family from his brother Scott who has been successful on the upper levels of racing to his uncle, the late great midwest driver Larry Detjens," Dennis Huth, ASA President said. "Earlier this year, I watched Chris go from third to first in the closing laps and on to victory in the ASA Midwest Tour event at Iowa Speedway in front of 20,000 fans.
