MERCEDES-BENZ RETAIL SUPPORT THE UK'S YOUTH WITH FLAVA DURING
ANTI-BULLYING WEEK (16-20 NOVEMBER 2009)
Media information: 17 November 2009
16-20 November is national Anti-Bullying Week, and schools across the country are taking part in numerous activities to prevent bullying and encourage pupils who are being bullied to speak out.
Mercedes-Benz Retail is continuing its support of hip-hop dance troupe Flava, who were propelled to fame by reaching the semi-finals of ITV's Britain's Got Talent in 2008, as they continue to travel across the UK to raise awareness of this important issue.
Flava's 'b inspired' tour, which is supported by the Home Office Community Fund, delivers strong anti-bullying messages through dance and discussion-based workshops. The initiative encourages children to explore what it feels like to be both bullying victims and aggressors, as well as tackling issues associated with gun, gang and knife crime.
Flava will encourage students to take part in activities and continue learning dance in their area after the workshop is over, so those inspired by Flava can build their own community groups and continue to learn and improve their skills.
"Being bullied and fear of bullying is a huge concern for young people and parents alike, so it is great to see a company such as Mercedes-Benz Retail supporting Flava's work," said Metropolitan Police Sergeant Bob Dubar. "Regular bullying can be associated with problems later in life, so raising awareness of its consequences as well as promoting safety and responsibility amongst young people in the community will have a positive impact on society."
Mercedes-Benz Retail Managing Director, Neil Williamson says, "Projects such as this are instrumental in making a difference to local communities and Mercedes-Benz Retail is proud to be supporting such a worthwhile initiative."
