UQM Technologies Receives U.S. Patent on Rotor Geometry for Permanent Magnet Electric Motors

FREDERICK, Colo.--UQM TECHNOLOGIES, INC. , a developer of alternative energy technologies, announced today that it has been granted United States patent number 7,598,645 entitled “Stress distributing permanent magnet rotor geometry for electric machines.” The patent covers a novel rotor geometry that minimizes magnet content and maximizes the speed capability of the motor. The reduction in the amount of magnet material enabled under this patent is expected to result in lower production costs for electric propulsion systems for passenger automobiles.
