CHEP Presents Inaugural Carrier Awards at Symposium
ORLANDO, Fla.--CHEP, the global leader in pallet and container pooling services, held the 2009 Carrier Symposium October 20 - 21, 2009 at the Orlando Marriott World Center to recognize the superior achievements of its transportation partners. The highlight of the two-day event was the awards ceremony, which was attended by Kevin Shuba, President of CHEP Americas, and Jim Ritchie, President of CHEP USA.
“All of the nominees and winners of this year’s awards represent the best of what CHEP wants in a transportation partner. They anticipate our needs, provide us with mutually beneficial opportunities and help us improve the way we service our customers. Congratulations to them all,” said Ritchie.
The gala banquet featured the naming of winners in nine categories --
Highest On-Time Performance – Dedicated; Awarded for consistently providing outstanding on-time delivery. Nominees were Cardinal Logistics – Waterford, NY, JB Hunt – Livonia, MI and Cardinal Logistics – Charlotte, NC. The winner was Cardinal Logistics – Waterford, NY for posting 37 weeks with no late loads and 48 weeks with on time performance of greater than 97.5%.
Highest On-Time Performance – Linehaul; Awarded for consistently providing outstanding on-time delivery. Nominees were Distribution Technology (Piedmont), The Osterkamp Group – Dedicated Fleet Systems and Gardner Trucking. The winner was The Osterkamp Group – Dedicated Fleet Systems for posting 38 weeks with on time performance of greater than 99%.
People’s Choice Award; Awarded for excellent customer service as voted by Logistics. Nominees were Armstrong Horizon, Schneider National and C.H. Robinson. The winner was Schneider National for having excellent response time and superior communications.
Blue Alliance Award; Awarded for unique and creative partnership. Nominees were WestWind Logistics, US Xpress and Matson. The winner was US Xpress for partnering with LeanLogistics and CHEP to launch “Green Lanes” concept and prove its viability. This unique partnership now moves 40-50 loads per week that would otherwise be empty.
Dedicated Fleet of the Year; Awarded for excellent on-time delivery, cost and customer service by a single fleet. Nominees were Cardinal Logistics – Lakeland, FL, JB Hunt – Columbus, OH, Cardinal Logistics – Waterford, NY. The winner was Cardinal Logistics – Waterford, NY for having the best on-time performance for a dedicated fleet, hitting cost savings goals and having great customer service.
Dedicated Provider of the Year; Awarded for excellent on-time delivery, cost and customer service with ALL fleets. Nominees were Schneider National, Cardinal Logistics and Werner Enterprises. Winner was Cardinal Logistics for having the most fleets that exceeded performance targets and delivering cost savings.
International Carrier of the Year; Awarded for excellent on-time delivery, cost and customer service globally. Nominees were C.H. Robinson, Panalpina and Canadian National Rail. Winner was Panalpina for delivering significant cost savings and providing innovative supply chain solutions.
Regional Carrier of the Year; Awarded for excellent service, cost and customer service by a regional partner. Nominees were Gardner Trucking, Penn’s Best and Armstrong Horizon. Winner was Gardner Trucking for exceeding performance expectations and great customer service.
National Carrier of the Year; Awarded for excellent service, cost and customer service by a national carrier. Nominees were Swift Transportation, Schneider National and C.H. Robinson. Winner was Schneider National for excellence in on-time delivery, capacity, responsive pricing and customer service.
In addition to the awards program, the 2009 Carrier Symposium was designed to build relations with transportation partners and conduct educational seminars that will improve shipper performance. The event theme, “…it’s about Time,” highlights the CHEP’s goal of world-class service as well as the need to accelerate the order fulfillment cycle.
“Our objective in hosting this event was to recognize those carriers who have performed the best during the last year and to give everyone an update on our business, priorities and challenges. We also wanted the opportunity to listen to how we can improve as a shipper as well as jointly drive efficiencies in the supply chains we support,” said Bill Wade, Vice President, Logistics at CHEP.
Among the key sessions presented at the symposium were Time to Explore CHEP’s Supply Chain Initiatives, It’s about time… we discuss CHEP Transportation Outlook, Lean Logistics On-Demand: CHEP’s Transportation Management System, The Fundamentals of CHEP and CHEP Global Transportation! How CHEP is crossing borders and oceans EVERYDAY. The event also featured an executive level discussion with CHEP leaders reviewing the company’s Customer Focus to Strategy and Vision for the future.
Wade also presented the group of more than 125 transportation professionals from companies across the country with the steps CHEP is taking to improve relations with carriers:
- Acting with integrity and transparency, everyday
- Promptly fulfilling our financial obligations
- Not deviating from our RFQ cycle and commitments
- No net growth in our carrier base
- Increased focus on communication and responsiveness
