Fourth on Friday in Vegas, Anderson Targets Saturday Improvement

Event: Las Vegas NHRA Nationals
Location: The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, Las Vegas, NV
Day/Date: Friday, October 30, 2009

Qualifying for the Las Vegas NHRA Nationals got underway on Friday with two qualifying sessions, which were pushed into the evening hours by a series of on track delays. After opening with the second-quickest pass in the first session, Summit Racing Pontiac racer Greg Anderson looked to take advantage of the cooler temperatures in the second stanza at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway to better his time and position.

Although he was able to record a very competitive 6.672-second time with the second fastest speed of the round at 207.56 mph, Anderson’s 6.670-second time from earlier in the day remained his run of record, earning him the provisional fourth position. With two attempts remaining on Saturday, the three-time champion immediately started working on improving his race car’s performance.

“Our Summit Racing Pontiac started off okay, and we certainly expected it to get better tonight,?? said Anderson. “Unfortunately we didn’t, and our day didn’t turn out the way we wanted it to, especially when we look at how Mike Edwards ran. The bottom line, however, is that we still should have run better than we did, no matter what anyone else did.

“We were a little too aggressive with the clutch in low gear, and it shook, but we’re missing in other areas as well. In fact, none of our cars ran as well as they should have so we have our work cut out for us to find out what’s wrong. Fortunately, tomorrow is another day, and we have to make sure we make some forward gains. We have to get better – it’s as simple as that.??
