FireIce driver Payne looking for Las Vegas trifecta

FireIce driver Payne looking for Las Vegas trifecta

LAS VEGAS (Oct. 30) -- World champion drag racer Jay Payne will try to pull off a rare trifecta at the ninth annual Las Vegas NHRA Nationals by winning three trophies this weekend at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

Payne will compete in both his FireIce Ford Mustang Top Alcohol Funny Car and his FireIce Chevrolet Camaro Pro Mod racecar, which he'll race in both the regular event and the Matco Tools Pro Mod Clash, a high-dollar race-within-a-race for the top eight drivers in the category.

"It could be a big weekend," said Payne, a multi-time Las Vegas winner. "We've always run well at this facility and we love racing here. It's close to our home in California and it's just a neat city to visit.

"Both cars are running extremely well right now so we're excited about our chances. Of course we'd love to sweep all three races but taking any trophy out of here this weekend would be special because there are some really good drivers in both classes. Whoever wins these deals will have earned it, I can assure you of that."

An 11-time divisional champion with 24 national event victories on his resume, Payne has carried new sponsor FireIce to the winner's circle in both of his racecars this season. He won the Top Alcohol Funny Car title at the Division 6 race this summer in Woodburn, Ore., and recently captured the Pro Mod crown at the fourth annual Virginia NHRA Nationals in Richmond, Va.

Joining Payne earlier this season in May, FireIce is a non-toxic, environmentally-friendly fire suppression gel that firefighters add to water in pumper trucks, helicopters, fire planes, and handheld extinguishers to help put out fires much quicker than with water alone. Aside from sponsoring Payne's racecars and saluting firefighters through its association with his race team, FireIce, a subsidiary of GelTech Solutions Inc., a publically-traded corporation (OTCBB: GLTC), is a corporate partner to the Fallen Firefighters Foundation, which helps firefighters in need.

At each stop on the NHRA tour, FireIce and Payne have made a point of opening their pit to firefighters and their families attending the events. They've also participated in numerous fundraisers benefitting firefighters.

"It's been an honor to have FireIce as a part of our race team this year," Payne said. "They've made it a priority to salute our nation's 1.1 million firefighters with this racecar and we feel as though we've really been embraced by all of the wonderful firefighters that have stopped to visit us at each event. They all seem really tickled that we're running this car as a salute to them and a 'thank you' for what they do for all of us."

"We've also figured out that winner's circle celebrations that involve firefighters are a lot more fun then you could ever imagine. The brotherhood firefighters have is special and it's neat to be a small part of it all."
