RAYFORD HAS BEST FINISH OF THE YEAR ? 4TH PLACE FINAL ROUND OF TORC
PRO-LIGHT SERIES
Las Vegas, NV (October 29, 2009) - Chad Rayford and his Water FX
AMSOIL Maxxis Tire Nissan Frontier entered the final weekend of racing
in the inaugural Traxxas TORC Series presented by AMSOIL looking to
improve on his fifth place Perris finish, as well as bring attention
to his main sponsor, which is also based in Las Vegas. Chad
accomplished both of his goals.
The .8-mile track layout was technical and fast. The combination of
the clay sprint car oval, and desert infield soil really made the TORC
track team labor overtime, trying to keep the dust to a minimum.
After a solid practice and qualifying session, Chad lined up in the
tenth starting position of the sixteen-truck field. When the green
flag dropped, the Water FX Maxxis Tire Nissan Frontier rapidly picked
up two spots, in two quick laps. Then disaster struck. The brakes went
away on the second lap but still made it up to 6th place, then just
before the halfway CAUTION the ring and pinion self-destructed.
Officially, finishing fifteenth out of sixteen competitors.
Late into the night and the next morning Chad and his crew of Erik
Labutti and Tyler Wians went to work replacing the ring and pinion and
repairing the brake problem. After cleaning the truck and bodywork,
the blue and black Nissan was ready for the final race of the TORC
season.
The sixteen-truck field was definitely in a ?win at all costs?
mode. The championship was all but settled when the green flag was
waved, so the rest of the field went for broke. There was plenty of
bumping and rubbing, as Chad lost both rear quarter panels due to the
aggressive racing. Regardless, his move up through the field was
impressive, as he took the checkered flag in fourth place.
Afterwards, Chad was all smiles and took the time to talk about the
weekend. ?Friday night I lost the brakes right away, but the mud in
corners was helpful in slowing the Water FX Nissan down; I thought we
still could have a strong finish, track was fun and my past snocross
experience really helped on the rough and dusty track. It was
unfortunate when the ring gear broke. The crew and I kept our heads up
and got the truck ready, and the result was awesome. The ring and
pinion we installed for Saturday night had the wrong gearing and were
a little slow on the oval, but we could really make up the difference
on the infield section. I?m glad we could have a good run in Water
FX?s hometown.?
