TOPEKA, October 30, 2009: The Applied Computer Solutions Monterey Sports Car Championships Presented by Bondurant, Round 10 of the SCCA Pro Racing SPEED World Challenge Championships Presented by Toyo Tires, will air on SPEED, Tuesday Nov. 3, at 2 p.m. (EST).
The one-hour show opens with a showdown for both the World Challenge Touring Car Driver’s Championship and Manufacturers’ Championship Presented by RACER Magazine. Winning the pole in his No. 42 Acura/RealTime/Red Line Oil Acura TSX, Kleinubing brings the Manufacturers’ Championship to a tie between Acura and Mazda and cuts into Jason Saini’s Championship lead by 15 points. That’s exactly what Saini didn’t need, as his No. 74 MAZDASPEED/StopTech/ProParts MAZDA6 will start from ninth on the grid. Kleinubing appears to have the Championship in hand, leading the field away from the grid on the standing start with teammate Peter Cunningham in his No. 1 Acura/RealTime/Red Line Oil Acura TSX to serve as wingman, but a full-course caution erases the healthy lead built up by the teammates and bunches the field back up. It’s the perfect situation for Saini to make up the ground he needs to finish fourth and claim the Championship for himself. Tune into SPEED to see who will be crowned the 2009 World Challenge Touring Car Champion.
The World Challenge GT race follows, with Brandon Davis’ No. 10 ACS/Sun Micro Systems Ford Mustang GT starting from the front of the grid for the second race in-a-row, thanks to the post-qualifying coin toss. This time it was teammate Boris Said who clicked off the fastest qualifying lap, but incorrectly called tails, handing the top spot to Davis. Starting from the front gives Davis a little breathing room in the Championship, as his nearest competitor, Tony Rivera, starts his No. 97 Tax Masters/Brass Monkey Racing Porsche 911 GT3 fourth on the grid. The safety car appears shortly after the race begins and James Sofronas takes advantage of the restart to pass Davis for the lead in his No. 14 Global Motorsports Group Porsche 911 GT3. Davis’ Championship is still safe, but with 10 laps to go Rivera moves into third. Is there enough time left for Rivera to steal the crown away from Davis? Don’t miss the final race of the 2009 World Challenge GT season on SPEED.
