Frequently Asked Questions Concerning the Candy Bowl:

Q: Can I camp at SSP?

A: Yes, overnight camping is permitted in the parking lot areas however open fires are not permitted.

Q: Are there hotels nearby?

A: Yes, there are hotels located at Exit 34 in Yocumtown approximately 2 miles from the speedway. There are also many fine hotels north of the speedway in Harrisburg and south of the speedway in York.

Q: Is there an entry fee for any of the classes?

A: No, there are no entry fees for the event. Many 600cc Micro Sprint races do have entry fees, but with the great support of J&K Salvage, they have eliminated the need for an entry fee for this special event. Byers Tires has also support the Thundercar class by helping to increase the winner's share to $500.

Q:We have never been there before, so how do we enter the pits?

A: All haulers enter the pits through the gate at the front of the speedway. Pit passes may also be purchased at the booths in front of the speedway. The white building is the sign in for Drivers and Speedway VIP's (Media, Push Trucks, etc.). The blue building is for those who are not drivers but need to purchase a pit pass. There are two lines to move people through quickly.

Q: What is the age limit for entering the pits?

A: All persons must twelve years of age or older. Those ages 12, 13 or 14 must provide a copy of their birth certificates.

Q: Where will the various divisions be pitted?

A: The ARDC Midgets will pit in the front pit area as the Micros will pit in the area outside turn two. This will make it easier for those leaving after the races to go to Linda's Speedway for their rescheduled National Open. The Thundercars, Legends Cars and Mini Vans will pit in the infield.

Q: If there is inclement weather, what number can I call to see if the event has been postponed?

A: On raceday, use the track phone at (717) 938-9170 for up-to-date information.

Q: Is there a raindate?

A: Yes, the next day on Sunday, November 1 with the same time schedule in effect.

Q: What is the "Trick or Treating on the Frontstretch"?

A: This is a very popular part of the program in which all fans have the opportunity to meet the cars and stars of the Candy Bowl. All particpants are encouraged to bring candy for the children to trick or treat from car to car. Many children in the past have "scored" loads of candy from their heroes. Adults are also permitted to particpate in the trick or treating only if they are in costume. Immediately after the trick or treating, the ARDC Midget feature will push off from the frontstretch to start their feature event.

Q: Is this the final race of the season for the ARDC Midgets?

A: Yes, the ARDC Midgets feature event will determine the champion for their 2009 season. In years past, the champion was determined on the last lap of the feature which makes the event even more exciting. Although the battle for the championship is not nearly as close as year's past, many other spots in the top ten could change during the Candy Bowl.

Q: How will starting lineups be determined?

A: The ARDC Midgets use their own handicapping system to determine their lineups for both qualifying and feature racing. The Legends Cars and Mini Vans lineups are derived from the weekly SSP handicapping system. The Micro Sprints will run heat races with lineups determined from a blind draw. The first heat race winner will draw a 1, 3, 6 or 9 or 1, 4, 8 (depending on the number of heats) to determine the inversion for the feature. The Byers Tires Thundercars will only run a feature determined by a blind draw when they sign in at the front pit booth.

Q: Is the driver's meeting mandatory?

A: It is not mandatory, but highly recommended as all race procedure rules will take place at the meeting as well as other important information concerning the event. Those not attending the meeting will have no one else to blame but themselves for understanding the rules or tech procedures if they do not attend.

Q: What techincal specification rules will the various divisions compete under?

A: The ARDC Midgets will follow their rulebook as written by their club. The 600cc Micro Sprints will run under the same general guidelines used by local speedways. The Legends Cars will run under the specifications as prescribed by INEX. The Thundercars will compete by the generally accepted rules for both the Lincoln Speedway and Trailways Speedway. The Mini Vans will run under to 2009 SSP guidelines.

Q: There was a poll taken on the SSP website in September to see what the fans wanted to see as an added division. Why was there not any divisions added?

A: There were some things that needed to be worked out between speedway management and ARDC management to confirm the event. All was worked out, therefore no other divisions were needed for the Candy Bowl. The information will be used to determine special events at SSP for the 2010 season.
