NJVC Hits the Road to Support Soldiers

VIENNA, Va.--NJVC, one of the largest information technology solutions providers for the U.S. Department of Defense, hosted a 113-mile motorcycle ride this past weekend from Leesburg, Va., through parts of West Virginia and into Maryland to raise more than $2,000 for Laptops for the Wounded, a nonprofit organization that provides webcam-equipped laptops to wounded veterans in military hospitals.

Approximately 45 bikers participated in the company’s first “poker-run” fundraiser held Oct. 10. The event featured several prize drawings and started and ended at one of Loudoun County’s oldest Irish pubs, Spanky’s Shenanigans.

“Even the threat of rain couldn’t keep away the dedicated riders who wanted to come out, have a good time and raise money for our soldiers,” said Jody Tedesco, NJVC president and general manager, who was one of the riders. “NJVC’s mission is directly related to supporting warfighters who protect the security of our nation every day. Our philanthropic partnership with Laptops for the Wounded brings this mission back home as we thank wounded troops for their service to the nation by providing them with the means to communicate with their loved ones as they work their way back to health.”

NJVC has raised more than $42,000 for the charity during the past year by hosting a variety of special fundraising events. At the company holiday parties last year, NJVC employees made donations that were matched by the company, and NJVC hosted two charity golf tournaments over the summer.

Laptops for the Wounded, founded in 2005, is a nonprofit charitable organization that provides laptop computers equipped with webcams to wounded military personnel in hospitals, so they can communicate with family and friends while recuperating from their combat wounds.
