FALL FINALE HAS GREAT RACER TURNOUT
Weyauwega, WI (October 14, 2009) - The final weekend of off-road
racing in the Upper Midwest saw ninety-five Sportsman racers enter the
Fall Finale in Weyauwega, Wisconsin. The Waupaca County Fairgrounds
with its covered concrete grandstands and a .75 mile harness racing
track was an excellent venue to create a stadium style track with all
the amenities. The cold temperatures (in the mid 40?s) didn?t keep the
racing from getting hot.
Each day saw the competitors compete in ten lap races, on the Jake
Vande Voort designed track that consisted of high speed jumps, a
rhythm section, a high bank corner, a great table top jump, and a
sandy, but fast back stretch The track surface itself, was a mixture
of clay, sand, and dirt. This really presented a challenge many racers
had not seen in a very long time. The racers lined up in rows of two,
from a standing start.

After the class races concluded on Sunday, two Mechanics races were
run, one for buggies, and one for trucks. This was a perfect way to
end the season, and a great way to say thanks to the ?unsung? heroes
of the sport.
All in all, this was a great weekend of racing, regardless of the
cold weather. The racer turnout was great for a first time, stand
alone event. All the racers are hoping to return to Weyauwega during
the 2010 season.
This event was really supported well and special thanks must go out
to all the racers and team members that pitched in, at last minute, to
assist in the operation of the weekend event. Without their help, the
event would have never happened.
Thanks also go out to J & H Transmission, Phil?s Inc., and Centric
Parts for offering contingency awards at this event. The winner of the
awards will be contacted.
The season is over and after a short break, many competitors will
be firing up the furnace in their shop, to begin preparing for the
2010 short-course off-road race season.
Look for an upcoming announcement for the date of the expanded
version of the Off-Road Safety & Marketing Expo. In 2009 this event
was held in March in Abrams, Wisconsin. For 2010, the organizers would
like to have the date later in the year, to allow for more vendors, as
well as a swap meet section.
See everyone in the spring.
