 Third on Friday in Richmond, Line Is Cautiously Optimistic

The first day of qualifying at the Virginia NHRA Nationals featured clear blue skies and temperatures in the 80’s, which slowed the naturally-aspirated Pro Stock category.  As a result the twenty cars attempting to qualify for Sunday’s final eliminations graded their performance against that of their fellow competitors.  

 

Coming into the day second in the championship standings, Jason Line and the Summit Racing team continued to be among the front-runners, with their 6.630-second, 208.39 mph best placing them third midway through qualifying.  Despite this lofty standing, the KB Racing crew was more encouraged by the fact that they had been able to run close to current points leader Mike Edwards, who had excelled in these conditions throughout the year.  As a result, Line enters Saturday’s final two sessions cautiously optimistic about improving his standing for race day.

 

“I have to say that I’m fairly pleased with our Summit Racing Pontiac’s performance today,�?? said Line.  “We don’t normally shine in these conditions, so to run as well as we did was pretty good for us.  We didn’t run too bad and there’s definitely mor
e left in it, because we were a little light on the clutch.   Of course, if we get the cooler temperatures that are in the forecast, these runs will become irrelevant.  But still, we’re pretty happy with how our weekend started.  The important thing now is to keep it going.�??
