Line Targets Bookend Wins in Richmond

Mooresville, N.C., October 9, 2009 – When the NHRA returned to Virginia Motorsports Park three years ago, Summit Racing Pontiac driver Jason Line made the most of the opportunity, qualifying No. 1 and taking home the trophy, his fourth win of the season en route to the 2006 Pro Stock championship.  Now, as the fabled quarter-mile prepares to leave the Full Throttle circuit in 2010, Line comes into the weekend looking for the same results, namely to win the race and the championship.   However, sitting in second place coming off his career-best fifth 2009 win five days ago in Memphis, Line knows his team have their work cut out for them if they are to accomplish their goal.

“We certainly have a shot at this year’s championship,?? said Line. “But with so few races left we will have to make every run count.  Even with Greg and I winning the last two races (KB Racing teammate Anderson) Mike (points leader Edwards) is still in the catbird seat, so we have to continue to do a great job while hoping he slips a little.

“Fortunately, we have two Summit Racing Pontiacs in contention, which really helps.  That way we have a better chance of racing the people we are battling in the points.  At the very least, if I happen to have a bad weekend, Greg will have a good one and vice versa.
There are a lot of things that can happen in these last few weeks, and having two cars capable of winning not only improves our chances of winning the championship, but also of finishing as high as we can in the points.??

Located on the outskirts of Richmond, Virginia Motorsports Park has seen its share of drag racing history, including the first 200-mph Pro Stock run in 1997.  As such, it is a favorite of the naturally-aspirated classes, who can count on a healthy amount of support from the fans in the Old Dominion state.   With the combination of a fast racing surface and cooler conditions in the forecast for Saturday and Sunday, the “factory hot rods?? will most likely post some quick times and fast speeds, which is right up Line and the KB Racing crew’s alley.

“Typical of most tracks along the East Coast, there are a lot of Pro Stock fans in Richmond,?? said Line.  “That alone makes it a fun place to go.  On top of that, the track is very fast, and with the forecast calling for cooler temperatures during the weekend, we should see some very quick times.  Generally speaking, those are our type of conditions, so I believe the Summit Racing team has a good chance to do some damage.

“Everything is in place for us to have a productive weekend.  The track is good, the forecast is favorable, and my Summit Racing Pontiac is working well, having made seven decent runs last week.0  All in all, I think we have as good a shot as anyone at leaving here with the win.  This is an important weekend, and we need to make the most of it.??
