Multiple obstacles however, stand between him and the illustrious honor. Notably, 200 miles of racing on a gritty racetrack dubbed, "The Rock." Rockingham Speedway is known for its abrasive racing surface and its short track style characteristics by measuring only one-mile in length, making the historic track the perfect place to put a cap on the 2009 season. "I'm looking forward to Rockingham. I like the track, it's a lot of fun. We had a good test there a few weeks ago and I'm really excited about the race. We really want this championship. It would mean so much to me, my crew chief Mark (Rette) and Eddie (Sharp, car owner). We've all worked so hard and had such a good season," Lofton said. "There's nothing we can do when it comes down to race time. We can't control what Parker does or how people race us. We're going to race our race and go for the win. That's what we need to do to win this championship." So far, Lofton has done everything right en route to the championship entering the 21st and final race of the 2009 ARCA RE/MAX Series season, he has notched an astounding five pole awards, six race wins, and a series leading 14 top-five and 18 top-10 finishes spanning the tour's challenging schedule of half-mile short tracks to 2.66-mile superspeedways. With numbers like that, crew chief Mark Rette is confident in the outcome this Sunday. "We're going to do the same thing we've been doing all year. We're going to go there and sit on the pole, lead the most laps and win the race," he said. "We're taking the car we raced at both Kentucky races. We tested it at The Rock a few weeks ago. It's a good car." Practice and qualifying for the American 200 is set for Saturday. The race will take the green flag just after 1 PM on Sunday, October 11th with live coverage via ARCARacing.com's audiocast and timing scoring. The race can also be seen on SPEED at 10 PM.
