Event -- October 8th: Florida's 1st FFV Rally and Launch of the Flexible Fuel Vehicle (FFV) Awareness Campaign - E85 for 85 Cents Per Gallon

MIAMI, Oct. 5, 2009 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Florida will take the next step to mobilize owners of flexible fuel vehicles (FFVs) as it will launch a driver education campaign in Miami this Thursday October 8th at 10:30 am. The FFV rally begins with a press conference at the Midway U-Gas location at 210 NW 79th Avenue, Miami 33126. E85 (15% gasoline and 85% ethanol designed for FFVs) will be on sale for 85 cents per gallon from 11am to noon. Two free IndyCar Race Tickets and special parking/FFV Corral passes will be given to the first 50 FFV owners to purchase E85 at the Rally. IndyCar Race Driver Mario Moraes will be available for autographs from 11am to 11:40am. Please encourage FFV owners in your area to rally at this local E85 station to show their support for consumer choice and clean burning renewable fuels.

The campaign will help locate, educate, and motivate FFV owners to use higher blends of ethanol so the U.S. can meet the goals of the national renewable fuel standard (RFS) and pave the way for 2nd generation biofuels in Florida. Florida currently has over 500,000 FFV owners. The number of FFV owners is expected to surpass 1 million in the next three years. Florida has thirty E85 stations in the state, 12 in south Florida, and more in the planning stages.

The launch comes on the heels of the announcement of the campaign in July at the Florida Farm-to-Fuel Summit by Charles Bronson, Florida Commissioner of Agriculture and Consumer Services, and Florida Governor Charlie Crist. The Clean Fuels Foundation and the FlexFuel Vehicle Club of America are the organizers of the campaign. Brazilian Sugarcane Industry Association (UNICA) is sponsoring the upcoming series of IndyCar Race related events which is the next phase of the driver education campaign. State and local biofuel stakeholders have been invited to attend and speak. Participation is still being confirmed, but there will be others biofuel stakeholders in attendance and available for interviews.
