Smith System Offers Free Video Supporting Message of National Distracted Driving Summit

$140 Value DVD offered FREE for a limited time

ARLINGTON, Texas, Oct. 5 -- In response to last week's National Distracted Driving Summit held in Washington DC, Smith System is offering its Distracted Driving video free of charge to organizations interested in promoting safety for their employees. *

The video, entitled Are You Playing with a Full Deck?, shows how distractions such as cell phones and texting affect our ability to concentrate on the changes in traffic patterns as we drive. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) now lists distractions as the number one cause of traffic accidents.

The two-day summit, called by Department of Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood, brought federal, state and local officials and interested industry representatives together to focus on actions being taken to curb the use of cell phones and texting while driving. Secretary LaHood announced during the summit that President Obama had signed an executive order banning federal employees from text messaging while driving on the job or in a government-owned vehicle.

Smith System trains corporate employees in its Smith 5 Keys of safe driving. Its training produces significant reductions in the accident rates of corporate fleets and driving education that employees can easily transfer to their family members.

"Last week I participated in the US Department of Transportation Distracted Driving Summit in Washington, DC where industry experts and members of Congress gathered to discuss the problem of distracted driving," said Tony Douglas, CEO of Smith System. "I am pleased to report that the scientific conclusions verify what we have been teaching all along and what Harold Smith originally said more than 50 years ago... driving is eyes-mind and not hands-feet. Dr. Tom Dingus, Director of the Virginia Tech Transportation Institute, said it best during the summit... 'vision is king.' The meeting consensus was that vision factors (seeing) and cognitive factors (thinking) are the solution to the distracted driving problem ...or what we might call 'not playing with a full deck.' I am very pleased to offer this complimentary copy of our Distracted Driving DVD to help reinforce the messages of the Distracted Driving Summit.
