AA Travel Insurance Guidance to Tourists Affected By Typhoon Parma

BASILDON, England--Tropical Storm Ketsana caused severe flooding in low lying areas of Metro Manila and Luzon on 26 September 2009 and authorities are still dealing with flooding from Typhoon Ketsana. You can access the latest information on the National Disaster Coordinating Council's website at: ndcc.gov.ph.

The Philippines has ordered the evacuation of thousands of people from areas in the path of the second powerful typhoon to hit the country in a week. Tropical Storm Parma may affect the Philippines from 2-5 October. It is anticipated that Typhoon Parma will hit the main island of Luzon north of the capital Manila early on Saturday morning.

However, according to Nathaniel Cruz - head weather forecaster in the Philippines, “Parma could yet change direction and miss the country, adding that it was carrying less rain than Ketsana.”

“Travellers should be aware that public services and healthcare are likely to be disrupted in affected areas. There is also a potential for increased risk from waterborne disease”, explains Christian Young, CEO of AA Travel Insurance. Travellers should contact their tour operator or airline prior to travel.

AA travel insurance recommends that travellers follow the FCO advice when travelling to the Philippines. If you are already in one of the affected areas, you should register with the nearest consulate or high commission or register online using the LOCATE portal www.locate.fco.gov.uk/locateportal.

Further heavy rainfall is possible in northern Philippines. You are advised to check the latest weather forecasts and advisories: http://www.typhoon2000.ph.
