Honeywell Launches VNT(TM) DualBoost Turbo on New Ford Power Stroke Engine

Innovative Dual Compressor Design Approaches Two-stage Benefits in One Single Package

TORRANCE, Calif., Oct. 1 -- Honeywell has unveiled its groundbreaking VNT(TM) DualBoost turbocharger on Ford's all-new 6.7-Liter V-8 Power Stroke diesel engine. Honeywell's newest single turbo technology delivers turbo benefits approaching those from dual-stage configuration.

Honeywell's industry-first VNT(TM) DualBoost technology extracts more performance from a single turbo package by incorporating a dual-sided compressor wheel that works in a single casing. This innovative design allows a Variable Nozzle Turbine (VNT(TM)) DualBoost turbo to drive ultra-high levels of EGR (exhaust gas recirculation) in line with 2010 US emissions standards while maintaining the ability to achieve higher horsepower. In addition, the variable geometry turbine's low thermal inertia also improves after-treatment temperature management.

"This is a key turbo development for light and medium truck OEMs as they seek solutions to provide better fuel efficiency, enhanced driveability and improved emissions control," says Craig Balis, Vice President of Engineering at Honeywell Turbo Technologies.

The compact design of the VNT(TM) DualBoost turbo system also helped Ford achieve an industry first with its "inboard exhaust manifold" design for the Power Stroke engine, improving throttle response, NVH (Noise, Vibration and Harshness) and fuel economy.
